Meet the other couples who got married on Saturday 19th May
21 May 2018
Not to be overshadowed by the royal wedding, here are just some of the couples who tied the knot on the same day as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle
No matter what the time of year, for every bride and groom there will always be another wedding taking place on the same day as theirs. However, the likelihood of knowing the competing couple is slim - especially if you give your wedding date with plenty of advance notice.
Yet for these couples it was the wedding of the decade that threatened to steal the spotlight from their special days... that of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle on Saturday, 19th May. Despite the media furore that has ensued since the royal engagement was announced in November 2017, the impending royal wedding did little to detract from these couples' big days - many of which had set the date long before Harry and Meghan.
Here, we share a snippet from each celebration and shine a light on the beautiful brides and gorgeous grooms whose wedding was just as memorable, momentous and magnificent for all in attendance.
Shana James and Ryan Neal
Held at The Grange Hotel in Bury St Edmunds, the wedding of Shana and Ryan was full of special moments. The bride wore a breath-taking dress from Peter's Bridal Warehouse in Soham, which featured a fitted bodice, backless design and A-line skirt. The groom wore a kilt from Gerald Boughton Formal Hire in Bury St Edmunds to pay tribute to his Welsh roots.
Commenting on their most memorable moment of the day, Shana said: "There were so many fantastically heart melting and memorable moments through the entire day but the one that stands out to us the most has to be the lead up to the ceremony and the ceremony itself. As soon as I saw Ryan it took my breath away and it took all my strength not to spill over with tears of joy and run the rest of the way to him. When Ryan saw me for the first time he said I absolutely stunned him and he welled up."

Stephanie, whose dress was from Pure Brides and Grooms in Norwich, said: "Spending the most magical day of our lives with our beautiful family and friends was the highlight; those special people in our lives watching us get married and enjoying every moment as much as we did."

Alice Nicol and Craig Mann
Alongside their daughter, Elsie, Alice and Craig began their day with a ceremony at St Mary's Church in South Wootton, followed by an unforgettable reception at The Ffolkes in Hillington, Kings Lynn. Alice's Morilee 'Maribella' dress, bought from Unique Bridal at Castle Rising, was a show-stopper, while Craig looked the part in a tailor-made suit by Moss Bros.
Reminiscing on the day, Alice lists her highlights: "Walking down the aisle to see Craig and our daughter, Elsie, being included in the ceremony and giving the vicar/Craig my ring. Even though I got the giggles and laughed through my vows, that moment in the church meant that as a family we now all have the same surname. Also, seeing the venue complete was amazing; our florist had done some amazing work. We were so lucky with the weather and it just topped off an amazing day shared with our family and friends."

Claire wore 'Prunelle' by Pronovias, an intricately embellished figure hugging gown, and Dean wore a tailored navy blue three-piece pure wool suit by Barutti. Commenting on the day, the couple said: "We decided our most memorable moment (although it was very difficult to decide, as there were so many) was the first moment we looked at each other as Claire walked down the aisle."

Daniel wore a grey silk suit hired from Suits Direct with a sage green cravat and silver swirl waistcoat.
The couple's beloved Collie, Flip, was a big part of the day and provided much amusement - as Amelia recalls: " Our most memorable moment was when Flip decided to entertain the guests by making laps of the front lawn while the group photos were being taken. She also voluntarily joined in the first dance halfway through."

Rebecca Leeman and William Allen
Rebecca and William enjoyed their dream day surrounded by their nearest and dearest at Langley Abbey in Norfolk. The bride and groom outfits were both sensational, with Rebecca opting for the Maggie Sottero 'Emma' gown which she had altered for a more fishtail finish, and William choosing a three-piece suit from Slater Menswear.
For Rebecca, her most memorable moments were when her godson, Hudson, threw a handful of confetti straight into her mouth during the confetti exit and the blessing the couple received by her grandfather, Reverend Canon Paul Thomas, following the civil ceremony. For William, the highlight was seeing Rebecca walk down the aisle to Bill Downs playing Christina Perry, A Thousand Years.
Nicola Hampson and Richard Lee
Rugby League super fans Nicola and Richard from Warrington won a competition to host their wedding day at Dacia's Magic Weekend in Newcastle and the day was as perfect as could be. Along with their son, Jacob, the couple's favourite part of the day was the ceremony itself and they were also excited to meet Rugby League legends, Paul Sculthorpe and Kylie Leuluai. The groom's suit was from Groom Formal Ltd in Warrington and chinos from M&S, while the bride's dress was from Missguided.
Katrina Southgate and Jordan King
Wearing an ivory lace topped gown from WED2B, Katrina travelled to her wedding day at St Agnes Church in Cawston, Norfolk via a 1931 Vauxhall Cadet that has been in the family for more than 50 years. Jordan met his childhood sweetheart, Katrina, at the altar, dressed in navy tails and trousers from Slater Menswear; he also paid tribute to his late father with his father's wedding ring attached to his pink rose buttonhole. The reception was held at Best Western Brook Hotel in Norwich where celebrations continued into the early hours.

Recalling the moment her groom saw her for the first time, Miranda said: "I walked down the aisle with my son and I didn’t know if I wanted to laugh or cry from sheer joy... turns out Damien felt the same way and was holding back the tears when he saw me in my dress. The other memorable moment was our first dance. We were so worried about it beforehand but it all just came together in a beautiful moment that we will never forget."

Lucy Pilgrim and Peter Clarke
There was love and laughter in abundance at Lucy and Peter's wedding reception at Browston Hall in Great Yarmouth, preceded by a church service. The bride and groom both wore outfits from eBay and a F1 racing car bouncy castle served to keep both children and adults entertained.
Lucy says: "The most memorable part of the day has to be the look on Peter's face when I walked in to the church and him bursting in to tears. Also, when we came out of the church, we had a Guard of Honour done by the 1st Belton Scouts and Cubs as we are both leaders based at 1st Belton; that was really a special touch to have them included in our special day, which was organised by the other leaders of the group."

Hollie Danzelman and James Godfrey
The Corn Barn in Cullompton, Devon, provided a stunning setting for Hollie and James. Holly wore a Stella York dress and James' suit was from Prudence Gowns. Hollie said: "The most memorable moments would be seeing James at the end of the aisle waiting for me; I could see him tearing up, which of course set me off. Also, as I was walking down the aisle and seeing all the faces of our family and friends who were beaming."
"Another one would be a moment we had during our first dance," Holly continued. "We just looked at each other and you could tell how happy we both were and what we had accomplished; we managed to have a little chat and just dance and take it all in."

Jessykar Donald and Daniel Hutton
Following their announcement as the winners of BudLight's competition to win a wedding at Pendennis Castle in Cornwall, Jessykar and Daniel's big day was a magical occasion. Jessykar wore a custom-made ivory dress and was walked down the aisle by her mum, Beryl. The wedding was held later in the day at 4.30pm, so the bride and groom's 30 guests didn't have to miss out on the royal wedding.
Ioana Bacociu and Benn James
Getting ready while watching the royal wedding with her bridesmaids, Ioana looked captivating in her 'Tasmin' gown by Pronovias. Awaiting his bride at St Andrew's Church in Deal, Kent, Benn wore traditional black tails and a navy cravat hired from Moss Bros. Emma-Rose Lester and Ian Dean
The picturesque surroundings of Bovey Castle in Devon were accentuated in the sunshine on Emma-Rose and Ian's wedding day. A Sophia Tolli dress bought from The Wedding Company in Plymouth focused all attention on Emma-Rose, while Ian's French Connection suit from Moss Bros perfectly complemented the bride.
Remembering the best bits of their big day, they said: "The 'Nearest the pin' activity was a great ice breaker and brought everyone together. The venue, the weather and the hospitality were first-class, the best service we and our guests have ever received. Emma’s best bit was watching the sun rise with a glass of champagne at the back of the terrace across the moor."
Ashley Savage and Wayne Real
Married at St Mary's Church, Lytchette Matravers in Poole, Dorset, Ashley and Wayne's wedding day continued at Newtown Conservative Club. Ashley's statement dress with a ruffled skirt was a beautiful choice, and the groom's grey suit, accessorised with a yellow cravat and rose buttonhole, provided the perfect complement to the couple's bright colour scheme. Ashley said: "The whole day was perfect."
Natalie and Ashley Wild
The regal setting of Farnham Castle provided a breath-taking backdrop for Natalie and Ashley's wedding day. The couple looked mesmerising with Natalie wearing a David Tutera dress and Ashley, a black morning suit with contrasting waistcoat and purple cravat from John Goodridge. They said: "The ceremony was a highlight as the Lantern Hall looked beautiful with gorgeous flowers; a harp and flute duo (Ellison Duo) really set it off. The food and service was exceptional at Farnham Castle; many guests have already told us that it was the best food they have ever had at a wedding. The weather was perfect as well... we could not have planned it better."
Donna Fox and Andrew Ralph
Donna and Andrew chose Mallory Court in Leamington Spa for their big day and the spectacular setting did not disappoint. The bride wore Anna Sorrano and the groom wore Ted Baker. The couple said: "When we arrived at the Knight Suite for our wedding breakfast, the staff were so friendly and offered drinks as it was a hot day. Spot on, more than what we expected. We cannot thank the staff at Mallory Court Hotel enough."
