With just a few weeks to go before her big day, bride-to-be Catherine Hiley shares the details of her Disney-themed hen party
I recently had my hen party and, like my engagement, wedding, home and life, it was filled with Disney magic.
First off, my best friend and chief bridesmaid, who had organised the whole event, presented me with a Disney-themed itinerary, done up like a menu from Beauty and the Beast. Inside, she'd themed every activity, from an Alice in Wonderland afternoon tea to drinks at the Bibbidi Bobbidi bar.
We kicked off the evening with a lovely meal on the balcony and a big dessert in my Mickey Mouse kitchen sink that I bought in Disneyland last year. Then we got into our matching Minnie Mouse bride-to-be and bridesmaid-to-be pyjamas and watched our favourite Disney princess films: Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty and Mary Poppins. Needless to say, it was practically perfect in every way.
During our Disney movie marathon, we indulged in a princess pamper session, putting on Sleeping Beauty face masks and giving each other manicures with Cinderella nail varnish. It felt like a sleepover when you're a kid. Except with alcohol instead of Panda Pops.
After what could only be described as an enchanted night's sleep, my best friend made us the best breakfast available outside of Disneyland... Minnie Mouse shaped waffles with cream and fruit and syrup.
Then I donned my Minnie Mouse bridal ears and we went out for an award-winning afternoon tea. When we got to the hotel, I found that my closest and bestest friends were there waiting for me with engagement balloons and sparkling wine.
Our table was weighed down with scones and cakes and as much tea and prosecco as we could drink. And there were cute mismatched cups and saucers that looked like they'd come straight from Wonderland.
Two of my friends then snuck off with my keys to go set up my flat for the next part of the day while the rest of my hen party distracted me. When we got back to my house, they'd set up a cocktail bar with a Disney themed drinks menu. And they'd decorated with a delightful mix of Disney and hen party decorations.
We played all the traditional hen party games and got nicely drunk before we headed back out for the evening's entertainment. We ate lots more food and then went upstairs to the karaoke booth my friends had booked and we belted out all our favourite Disney tunes until the early hours. As Rapunzel would say, it was the BEST DAY EVER.
