Marquee weddings soar in popularity

02 Feb 2018

Recent research has revealed that marquees are the second most popular choice for a UK wedding venue

Gala Tent, designer and manufacturer of marquees, gazebos and awnings, recently conducted a survey of 600 Brits to discover the preferred wedding reception venue.

While 36% chose stately homes, a marquee wedding reception garnered 18% of the votes with one in five women choosing a marquee as their preferred venue choice.

Lower budget reception options, such as church halls and pub function rooms, drew in 15.3% and 13.9% of the votes respectively and were popular choices among male respondents. A wedding reception at home was selected by 12.4% of respondents, and perhaps most surprisingly, hotel venues were selected by less than 1%. Beach locations received very few votes (0.4%).

Darren Perry, sales manager at Gala Tent, says:  “It comes as no surprise that stately homes are the first choice for wedding receptions, however the fact that marquees came second shows just how popular they have become. Many more people are choosing to host their weddings at home or in parks or gardens where the marquee gives them that extra flexibility.”

“Buying a marquee also means couples don’t have to wait several months or years and can choose the date and time they want to get married, rather than fitting around the venue," continues Darren.  "Couples are also looking for the flexibility to personalise their venue and their day to their tastes – with a marquee, they can do this perfectly.”
