Luck 13 The Shropshire wedding of Claire Pugh and Joe Varley

29 Sep 2014

Claire tells the story of her wonderful wedding day at The Lion Quays Hotel & Spa, Oswestry, Shropshire, after 13 years of courtship

We have been together for 13 years, so the time had come to take our relationship further!

We held our civil ceremony and reception in the Conservatory, in The Lion Quays Hotel & Spa. We have always loved The Lion Quays Hotel & Spa, as it’s local to us and has a very relaxed atmosphere, so it was a perfect place for our venue.

I wore the Maggie Sottero dress ‘Chadley’. As soon as I saw it online it was love at first sight. I contacted my local bridal store (Wedding Belles at Laura's) in Llandiloes, Powys, who ordered this dress in for me to try on and it was perfect. On the day of the wedding, my nerves were fine... until I saw my dad waiting for me in the lounge with the registrar. It was a moment which I will treasure forever. Then I could hear our wedding song, Chasing Cars, by Snow Patrol, being played for my arrival to the ceremony in the Conservatory and Joe standing at the top of the aisle looking emotional on my arrival.

The wedding colour theme was cappuccino and white and the theme was vintage with a little diamantébling. The beautiful photos were being taken with friends and family in the garden by Lesley and Shaun Meredith Photography of Cheshire, who were truly amazing. Our beautiful bridesmaids were Rosie Pugh, Hattie Varley, Ginny Bond-Scott and Donna Leah.

For the wedding breakfast Pimm’s was served to all guests on arrival, with white and roséwine on each guest table. The meal consisted of homemade tomato and basil soup with a warm bread roll, chicken breast wrapped in Parma ham with mixed vegetables, new potatoes and redcurrant jus, finished with a dessert of lemon torte, cream  and fruit coulis... delicious!

The speeches were from me, Joe, and our best man Ross Varley and were truly heartfelt and memorable to say the least…

At the evening reception we had buffet food and a chocolate fountain. The entertainment was from the Sound Sensation Disco and our first dance was to True, by Spandau Ballet.
