Popular wedding venue the Lord Bute Hotel is set to celebrate Harry Selfridge with 'The Spirit of Selfridge Evening Soiree'
The Lord Bute in Christchurch, Dorset is set to commemorate Harry Gordon Selfridge and his view to creating ‘The Biggest Castle in the World’ – entrance lodges to which remain incorporated into the popular wedding venue of The Lord Bute today.
As recently dramatized in ITV’s Mr Selfridge, Harry Selfridge initially rented Highcliffe Castle then went on to purchase Hengistbury Head in order to succeed in his venture. While dwindling finances prevented him from achieving his dream, The Lord Bute felt that his ambition should be celebrated rather than forgotten.
The centenary celebration will feature activities to suitably mark the occasion.
Simon Box, co-proprietor of The Lord Bute says: “Our ‘chin chin’ to the opulent Mr Selfridge being ‘The Spirit of Selfridge Evening Soiree’ which takes place on Saturday, 21st May.”
Reflecting the life and times of Harry Selfridge, the event will include luxury food, 1920s entertainment and fun gambling.
The Lord Bute will be making a donation towards the upkeep of Harry Selfridge’s final resting place.
