Dantuma Photography is a quirky wedding photographer based in Cheshire who creates beautiful natural wedding imagery by connecting with her couples so they feel comfortable in front of the camera
Photography is key if you love those natural wedding photographs which take you back in time to the day you got married. By capturing all the special moments of your wedding day as they unfold, this creates a visual narrative which holds onto all your memories to look back on for years to come.
Commenting on why it is important to find the right wedding photographer for you is Amanda Dantuma of Cheshire-based wedding photography business, Dantuma Photography. She says: “A collection of wedding images is for you today and for your future generations, as you will revisit your wedding photographs at various stages throughout your life. It is one of the aspects that remains after the day, and a way to remember those moments and memories that would otherwise go forgotten.”
Amanda has been passionate about photography from a young age when she received her first camera, a Nikon Konica Pop, at the age of eight from her dad. Later she went onto study Art & Design at university and then got her first job as a graphic designer in London. As Amanda progressed in her career she moved away from her creative roots.
Years later, Amanda was inspired to set up Dantuma Photography when she was looking through her parents’ wedding album. As she turned over the tissue pages to reveal images of her mum and dad, all happy and in love, she thought how wonderful it would be to capture memories for a living. Having lost her dad, she understands the importance of wedding photography and how photographs are passed through generations which spurred Amanda to set up Dantuma Photography nine years ago and the rest is history.
It is this feeling of nostalgia that also inspired Dantuma Photography’s strapline ‘Look back and smile’, a nod to the feeling every couple and their family and friends get when viewing their wedding photographs.
Natural portrait photography with a contemporary feel is Amanda’s signature style, directing couples into natural poses for the best results. This portraiture is complemented by reportage style wedding photography to capture the atmosphere and key personalities, for a beautiful and natural set of images.
When couples tell Amanda they are bringing their dogs to the wedding she cannot be more delighted, as this combines her love for animals and weddings. They bring a sense of fun to the day and their infectious nature makes everyone smile.
Amanda says: “Natural photography can only be achieved when you feel at ease and relaxed – a good photographer will take every effort to ensure your day flows smoothly and that you feel comfortable in front of the camera. Without it, images will be contrived and look awkward. The photographs simply capture a moment in time, and it’s that moment that takes you back." Amanda is also inspired by nature which gives her an appreciation for what works well seasonally in wedding photography.
If you’re not comfortable with being in front of the camera, Amanda offers pre-wedding engagement shoots which not only allow couples the chance to get used to being photographed but also builds a rapport with their wedding photographer. The shoot can take place at a location of the couple’s choice and they can bring along their children, pets and props to add personality to the images.
“A pre-wedding shoot helps both you and the photographer because you can explore different techniques, styles and approaches – whether you want the images to be more fun or romantic. It helps you to get ready for the wedding and if you choose your wedding venue as the location, you can become a bit more familiar with the setting before the day.”
The engagement shoot can be discussed in an initial meeting with Amanda. If you have booked Dantuma Photography for your wedding day, this also allows the chance to run through specific photo requests, timelines and the need for a second photographer if desired – allowing Amanda to tailor her services to meet your needs.
Amanda has put together some helpful tips about wedding photography which can be accessed through her blog: dantumaphotography.co.uk/blog/.
When it boils down to choosing your wedding photographer, Amanda emphasises the importance of rapport. “While everybody is different and there are so many different styles of photography available to you, find a photographer whose style you love but also someone who you can get on with on a personal level – perhaps someone who shares common interests. Ultimately, you want to choose someone who connects with you and understands what you want for your wedding.”
Dantuma Photography's all day wedding collection prices start from £1,275. Further information can be found at dantumaphotography.co.uk. To follow Amanda’s latest weddings and events, check out her Instagram and Facebook pages: instagram.com/dantumaphotography/ and facebook.com/DantumaPhotography/.
