La Boutique: the one-of-a-kind bridal shop in Exeter

14 Feb 2019

For brides in the South West, an appointment at La Boutique is an absolute must

With more than 500 dresses stocked in sizes 6 to 32, brides are spoilt for choice when they visit La Boutique. Every dress costs £500 or less and, as if that wasn’t reason enough to pay a visit, all the shop's profits goes straight to The Wedding Wishing Well Foundation, a national charity which helps couples with terminal and life-limiting illnesses have the wedding of their dreams before it’s too late.

La Boutique also stocks headpieces and shoes, and the two in-house seamstresses will make sure your dress is exactly what you are dreaming of for your big day. To find out what makes the shop so special, we spoke to three brides who found their dream dresses at La Boutique.

Tash Beer

“I knew straight away where I wanted to look for my dress,” says Tash. Her two sisters and cousin had already found their wedding dresses at La Boutique, so it was an obvious choice for the bride-to-be. “I love that every wedding in my family in the last year has featured a La Boutique dress,” says Tash. “It speaks volumes that with four weddings in two years, all of us found our dresses from La Boutique.”

“We went for the VIP upgrade – I felt extremely special,” she continues. The bride's mum, sisters and the groom’s mum enjoyed prosecco and nibbles as Tash tried on more than 20 dresses.

Assistant manager Juliet suggested different dresses and styling options to complete the bride’s vision for an understated, vintage-inspired look. “It was unbelievable to find a Justin Alexander dress for £500,” says Tash. “La Boutique will always hold a place in my heart as the place I found the dress I married my husband in.”

Kensa Pepperell

After finding out that the shop supports The Wedding Wishing Well Foundation’s work, Kensa knew she had to visit La Boutique. “The thought of being able to give towards something life changing with the added bonus of a beautiful dress for myself was a no-brainer. It made a special dress even more special,” says Kensa.

La Boutique was the first shop Kensa visited when looking for her wedding dress. She found the team professional and incredibly friendly, and felt at ease throughout her appointment. The bride and her mum giggled and cried throughout and Kensa found her perfect dress – the first she’d laid eyes on when she came into the shop.

“The team carried out all the alterations for me and stored the dress until I could collect it, relieving me of the pressure to keep it safe and away from prying eyes,” she says.

When it came to her wedding day, Kensa says “I would be lying if I said I didn’t flaunt the fact my dress was from such an amazing store with a truly worthy cause. I have recommended the experience to all brides I have spoken to. How lucky I am to have stumbled across La Boutique.”

Charlie Goodship

Charlie had already found a dress for her May wedding but something about it just didn’t feel right. “I’d already bought the original dress but it just wasn’t the one,” says Charlie: “The whole shopping experience had felt really impersonal.” Charlie was looking for that movie-moment reaction, when a bride just knows she’s found the dress for her.

A friend recommended visiting La Boutique and Charlie says her experience couldn’t have been more different. “When you walk in you have the whole room to yourself, with the beautiful sofas and carpet,” she says: “I’m a bigger girl so I was quite worried – I just wanted to try on dresses and see what felt right.”

This time Charlie got the reaction she’d been hoping for. Both mum and nan shed a tear when she tried on a strapless dress with a full-skirt – manager Ruth paired this with a lace jacket so the bride would feel comfortable during the ceremony. Charlie says “Ruth couldn’t have done more to help me, she was just wonderful.” She even arranged for Charlie to part-exchange her original dress, reducing the cost of the new one significantly.
