Kiss me...

Gavin and Amy’s seaside wedding w as played out to the sounds of splashing waves and favourite songs

Gavin Berry and Amy McAlpine

Where: Ceremony and reception at Pennsylvania Castle, Portland, Dorset

The best day of our lives started with a peek through the curtains to see beaming sunshine.

The men spent the morning raft building, while the ladies sipped bubbles in our ivory tower overlooking the sea and I opened my surprise from Gavin – a second honeymoon to New York.

Coiffed to perfection, my bridesmaids helped me into my dress. It was a traditional dress with a modern twist – a polka dot skirt, asymmetric hem and a hand-embroidered body.

We were married outside on the terrace with a backdrop of sea views and blue skies.

My dad walking me down the aisle to marry the man of my dreams is a moment I’ll never forget. As another surprise, Gavin had arranged for Matt Belmont to play Ed Sheeran’s Kiss Me. We couldn’t have wished for a more romantic service.

Our reception was in The Orangery Room, a simple yet stunning space, perfect for a relaxed atmosphere. A gypsophila ball hung above multi-coloured vintage crockery, Portland stone place settings and vases filled with flowers of every colour.

Following teapot cocktails and antipasti on the terrace, lamb was served by ‘head chefs’ in aprons and chef’s hats. For dessert we enjoyed a tea party; while the speeches had us all in tears – not only with touching words, but from how funny they were too.

Before the dancing started, it was time to cut the ‘cake’ – five wheels of delicious cheeses adorned with grapes and figs. We then snuck off for some sunset pictures five minutes away at Portland Bill where Gavin had proposed.

Our first dance was an acoustic version of Rihanna’s We Found Love. After a romantic start, our band ramped up the tempo for everyone to join us. The dancing started there and ended hours later to cheers of “one more song”.
