Karen Catchpole Photography takes the hot seat in our 'In The Spotlight' series.

How would you describe your style of photography?

Natural and relaxed; I like to capture your authentic selves

How did you start out in wedding photography?

Having been in the photography industry for 14 years, it began by assisting other wedding photographers. I then spent most of my twenties travelling, working on cruise ships capturing weddings, until I got a dog and settled down – now I’ve made it my passion back home.

Who are your ideal clients?

Fun and adventurous couples. I love meeting new people and it's always amazing to capture the ones up for new things.

Photographers seem to inject a lot of their personality into their work… what are your inspirations?

Travel. I love going to new places and finding new inspirations in the landscapes around us. It lets the creativity flow.

How far in advance should those interested look to book you? Do people stand a chance of getting you last minute?

I would always recommend at least a year, especially in the peak seasons. But with a lot more weekday weddings, there's always chance you could be lucky with your date if it is last minute. Pop me a message to find out.

What’s the most challenging part of photographing a wedding?

People think that there's loads of time in one day to capture everything, and there isn’t! The day flies by so quickly. The group shots are always the most challenging; adults are often worse than the children sometimes.

What are your best tips for putting couples at ease infront of the camera?

Have fun, and don’t focus on the camera too much. Just embrace it, laugh, smile and be big kids. I always offer an engagement session with my packages so it gives people the chance to see it’s not so bad before the wedding date.

In terms of trends, what do you think is the most interesting at the moment?

I love the rustic, boho style, which is very popular at the moment. I also recently went to a wedding show with a tipi and fell in love.

Why do you think wedding photography is worth the investment?

You spend so much money on planning a wedding, from the venue down to the finest detail, and the only way you look back on that day is through your photos. I always say it’s not just about the day, but how you will remember it for many years to come. Finding a photographer that you get on with and allows you and your guests to feel relaxed will bring out the best photos.
