Every year, retail trends come and go and these shifts in consumer behaviour are always apparent in the choices couples make for their wedding gift list.
John Lewis has released its findings for 2017, which highlight the most popular products for the year and compare the new trends with the previously favoured products of the past five years.
The insight shows that portable products that can be used on honeymoons make a popular gift, with the Bose Mini Portable Speaker and the GoPro taking the top spots in the Audio and Visual categories.
Products to add to the marital home continue to prove popular, although advances in technology have brought new fads and brands to the fore. Kitchen equipment and utensils such as outdoor pizza ovens, Nutribullets, KitchenAids and wine cooling cabinets are now a high priority, as are more high value tech items such as curved TVs - which come with a hefty pricetag of up to £3,000.
Gift lists are also increasing in value, with some couples including gift selections worth £22,000. However, low value items which offer a touch of nostalgia, such as board games, are riding high with requests; Articulate! and Scrabble are among the most asked-for games of 2017.
Tasneem Shafiq, gift list development manager at John Lewis, comments: “Rather than the traditional mainstays of the gift list, such as a canteen of cutlery or silver picture frames, we are increasingly seeing couples requesting more statement pieces that reflect their personalities and interests. 2017 gift lists are likely to feature anything from drones to rubber ducks, as couples who are likely to already be living together opt for the playful over the practical."
