Featuring exclusive behind the scenes footage of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip's wedding day, A Very Royal Wedding is set to air on ITV on Monday, 30th October at 9pm.
The documentary will celebrate the contributions which made the wedding such a special occasion, including the nine foot wedding cake which wowed the world.
Le Cordon Bleu, the global network of culinary arts and hospitality management institutes, has recreated the cake especially for the show. Led by head pâtisserie chef, Julie Walsh, the team of chefs used archived information and old pictures to meticulously craft the fruit cake which was made to size and clothed in white royal icing.
Chef Julie says: "It was truly an honour to be asked to replicate this incredible cake. The project
had its challenges due to the sheer size and scale of the cake. Even from the very first stages, to bake a cake of this size was immense. Specially designed tins were produced to support the cake as it baked."
The varying sized tiers which weigh 500lb - just as the original - will be distributed to pensioners at the Royal Hospital Chelsea as well as other nursing homes and charities, while the top tier will be gifted to The Queen herself.
