An intimate wedding with navy, burgundy and blush pink colours in Hertfordshire

11 May 2021

It was third time lucky when Alexandra Parrett married Oliver Palmer at Ashridge House in Hertfordshire

How was (if at all) your wedding affected by Covid-19?
Our wedding was cancelled and postponed three times. In the end we could have a maximum of 30 guests but our original venue closed down so we had to change venue - we fell in love with Ashridge House straight away. Our wedding was smaller and more intimate with none of the big things, I bought a second dress, saving the main one for a later date when we’ll hold a blessing/party, but the groom wore his original suit.

Tell us about the dress?
I found my dress at the second shop we tried. It had elements of the things I wanted but a very different style to what I thought I would go for.

Who were the bridesmaids and what did they wear?
As we are having our big celebration at a later date, the bridesmaids wore their own choice of dress for the ceremony.

What was your colour scheme?
Navy, burgundy and blush pink.

Tell us about your floral arrangements
Our florist was amazing and made a smaller bouquet and buttonholes for the smaller ceremony, still in keeping with the colours, to make it a little special.

How did you feel as you walked down the aisle?
It didn’t feel real. After all the cancellations and rescheduling it felt surreal that it was actually happening.

What was the most challenging aspect of planning this wedding?
Dealing with the rollercoaster of a pandemic.

Tell us about the wedding cake
We had our cake lady make us some cupcakes, so that we still had something to give out, but it was more compliant with restrictions.

Do you have any advice for couples in the planning stages?
Don’t listen to anyone else. The day is about you, do what is important for you and what you want.
