Following the news that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have requested a lemon and elderflower flavoured wedding cake from London-based baker, Claire Ptak of Violet Bakery, Iceland has revealed its own version for couples working to a lower wedding budget.
The royal-inspired wedding cake comprises two tiers and three layers full of zesty and delicious flavour. Filled with elderflower buttercream, the light lemon sponge is also complemented by Sicilian lemon curd and is finished with shimmering chocolate pearls.
Priced at just £8 - just 66p per slice, the handmade cake is a fraction of the £50,000 estimated cost of Harry and Meghan's culinary masterpiece.
However, couples wishing to get a slice of the action must be quick... Available to buy from 14th May 2018 - three days before the royal wedding, the limited edition cake is on sale for one week only and is restricted to one unit per customer.
Neil Nugent, head chef at Iceland, said:“We want our customers to enjoy the royal wedding celebrations in style and what better way to do that than raising a glass of champagne to the newlyweds and having a slice of their actual wedding cake – well, kind of."
