How to get the most out of a wedding planning event

04 Jan 2022

Attending a wedding show, fair, event or open day this year? Here's how to make the most of your time there

With wedding shows, fairs and events beginning to get underway again, here are the key ways you can get the most out of your day.

1. Speak to suppliers

Don't shy away from talking to the experts in the industry; they are best placed to offer advice and guidance with your wedding planning. You shouldn't feel obliged to book their services on the day and suppliers will be understanding if you would rather follow up after the event, so always take their leaflet or business card before you depart. After all, an informal and friendly chat can sometimes be the starting point of a great working relationship, so prepare plenty of questions in advance.

2. Bring your Pinterest account

While a scrap book or images saved to your phone will suffice, a wedding moodboard created on Pinterest will show exhibitors exactly what you're looking for. Add ideas for dresses, flowers, stationery, catering, styling, cakes and more to ensure your wedding vision is communicated clearly.

3. Enjoy discounts and enter competitions

Wedding fairs and shows featuring several suppliers usually offer a wealth of enticing on-the-day deals and discounts, so be prepared to bag yourself a bargain. From cut-price offers to exciting competitions to enter, there will likely be plenty of opportunities to save money on your wedding day and help you along with your wedding budget.

4. Stock up on magazines

Wedding magazines are the perfect source of ideas and inspiration when the event is over, so if there are any on offer make sure you take them home with you. While the internet is great for searching and scrolling at the touch of a button, a wedding magazine offers the opportunity to relax and enjoy a digital detox without sacrificing on important wedding planning time. It is also the ideal keepsake to add to your box of wedding memories when the big day has been and gone.

5. Pack the essentials

Always wear flat shoes to wedding events – or at least pack a pair for later in the day. There will inevitably be a lot of standing and walking, so be kind to your feet and have sensible, supportive footwear at hand should you need it. Also, bring along a notepad to keep track of your conversations with suppliers and a bottle of water to stay hydrated... after the compulsory prosecco toast, of course.
