How to find your dream wedding venue - 10 tips

Destination wedding experts Sandals explain what factors should be considered when looking for your wedding venue – at home or away.

1.       Decide whereabouts you want to hold the ceremony. Do you want to be able to get ready at home? Do you want to hold the ceremony close to where the majority of guests are based? Or do you want to get married abroad in order to have that dream beach wedding?

2.       Work out exactly how many people will be attending, that way you can ensure that the space is large enough to accommodate everyone. This will also help you to budget, as you will be covering the cost per head for the wedding breakfast. Alternatively, if you have your heart set on a particular destination you could always choose to tailor your guest list around the size of the venue instead.

3.       Have a set budget in mind. Obviously try to have some flexibility in there in case you find a dream venue that is slightly out of your price range, but for the most part keeping your budget at front of your mind will help to narrow the venue options and prevent you from getting distracted by spaces that are completely unfeasible.

4.       Decide what time of year you want to get married. Most venues can be adapted to suit the weather, but do bear in mind that this may affect the size, look and feel of the venue, and how you use the space.

5.       Think about your wedding night. As it is such a special occasion you will probably want to have a fairly indulgent bridal suite and so ensure that the wedding venue/a nearby hotel has something that will suit your needs.

6.       Further to this, you should also ensure that there are adequate accommodation options for your wedding guests, should they need to stay in the area.

7.       Think about wedding themes and decide whether the venue is appropriate for the theme and/or can be decorated in the way you choose. At Sandals Resorts we offer a selection of stunning set themes for those looking for inspiration, but also have totally customisable options for those who want a truly unique wedding.

8.       Find out whether the venue offers its own catering options, or if you will need to arrange this yourself? If you are arranging the catering yourself ensure that there are adequate options locally, especially if you have particular menu ideas in mind.

9.       Your hair and make-up may need to alter based upon the wedding venue you choose – the look you would choose for a beach wedding would probably be very different to that you would choose in a London hotel.

10.   Will the reception and ceremony take place in the same venue? If so, ensure that the venue has the correct licenses in place and that there is adequate space for all the different stages of the day.
