Horoscopes can inform us about all aspects of our lives, from our careers to our relationships. They can also help us choose the perfect engagement ring. The term ‘astrology’ has been steadily popular after reaching peak interest in December 2020, according to Google Trends.

“In astrology, everybody has their own unique natal chart which is created the moment that you take your first breath,” says astrologer Prue Nichols. “This chart offers profound personal insight as it illuminates your purpose for this lifetime. Your star sign (also referred to as the sun sign) is the most important planet in your chart as its position and sign reveals your destiny.”

If you are a firm believer in astrology, you can choose an engagement ring that pairs with your star sign. Whether you are a passionate Cancer sign or an ambitious Capricorn, here are some personalised engagement ring designs according to your star sign.

Aries: March 21 - April 29

Brides-to-be with an Aries star sign are known for their proud and strong nature, and are always up for a challenge. To complement this star sign, look for a statement ring. Consider a design with a bold coloured gemstone rather than a traditional diamond.

You can also pair multiple gemstones together for a striking statement piece.

Taurus: April 20 - May 20

Taurus star signs are known for being grounded and opinionated, with a love of creature comforts. Although they can be both gentle and fierce, a bride-to-be with this star sign needs an engagement ring that appeals to her perfectionist nature. A cushion shaped diamond halo ring would make for a beautiful engagement design. This is also the same style as Meghan Markle’s engagement ring.

To add some wow factor, opt for a double halo design. Adding an extra ring of diamonds around the initial halo can make your main diamond or gemstone appear bigger.

Gemini: May 21 - June 20

“Geminis deserve an engagement ring that emulates their bountiful energy and ability to light up any room,” explains Claire Beatson, general manager of ethical jewellery brand Nightingale. “I would recommend choosing something extra sparkly and extra unique that demands attention.”

A circular double halo pavé ring with mixed gemstones is a great option for Geminis. This ring style features diamonds along the band, which are held in place by small prongs. Incorporating mixed gemstones allows for a pop of colour; look to rubies for a deep blood-red that pairs well with white diamonds.

Cancer: June 21 - July 22

Cancer star signs are known for their loyal, passionate and caring nature. For this water sign, a Toi et Moi engagement ring is ideal. Celebrities such as Emily Ratajkowski, Ariana Grande and most recently Megan Fox, have this engagement ring style.

“The beautiful symbolism behind a ‘Toi et Moi’ engagement ring is ideal for Cancerians who are so devoutly loyal to their partner,” says Claire.

“This type of ring features two gemstones on one setting, and is meant to symbolise each person in the relationship, hence the name ‘Toi et Moi’ which translates to you and me in French.”

Leo: July 23 - August 22

For a naturally regal Leo, a sapphire gemstone engagement ring has the royal seal of approval. Princess Diana’s sapphire ring, now belonging to the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, is a beautiful example of the type of engagement ring a Leo should choose.

Look to an oval-shaped sapphire paired with small diamonds for a touch of sophistication.

Virgo: August 23 - September 22

Reliable, modest and organised, Virgo star signs maintain high standards across different aspects of their lives.

To coincide with their love of detail, a hidden halo style would perfectly suit a Virgo. This design includes a gemstone sitting on top of the ring band, which is made up of small diamonds. Virgos should opt for engagement rings with subtle or hidden details.

Libra: September 23 - October 22

This air sign is represented by scales, illustrating their charming and well-balanced traits. Librans love beauty and culture, so an Art Deco engagement ring is ideal.

Look for vintage, quirky ring styles with strong geometric patterns. A floral-style halo ring with a central diamond would not look out of place on a Libra’s finger. Coloured gemstones, such as sapphires, emeralds and rubies should be considered for your engagement ring design.

Scorpio: October 23 - November 21

Scorpios are strong and bold, and are fiercely loyal to their friends.

“Scorpios aren’t going to settle for a simple solitaire design. This star sign needs something to appeal to their darker side, while still remaining strikingly beautiful.”

For a design as bold as their personality, Scorpios should look at rings that feature a black gemstone, such as a black onyx or a black pearl. A dark gemstone adorned with bright diamonds will make for a striking engagement ring.

If you want a ring with lighter gemstones, consider a darker metal for the design. This can give your engagement ring a vintage feel.

Sagittarius: November 22 - December 22

A bright yellow-coloured gemstone will greatly complement an energetic Sagittarius. This fire sign is adaptable, assertive and are well-known for being one of a kind. Their bright and breezy nature needs a suitably shiny engagement ring to match. Engagement rings that use vivid yellow gemstones can symbolise this star sign’s sunny disposition.

A square cut emerald engagement ring would best suit a Sagittarius. You can also look to topaz for a gemstone with warmth.

Capricorn: December 22 - January 19

Capricorns are renowned for being the most ambitious and determined star sign, working hard to achieve success.

“With an old head on their shoulders, Capricorns would appreciate the classic beauty and timeless feel of a vintage ring,” says Claire.

An engagement ring adorned with pearls would make for a beautifully antiquated design. This is also a sustainable option to ring shopping, whether you are taking it to a jeweller to be melted down and redesigned, or you are happy to wear it as it is. This also allows you to wear a unique, vintage creation compared to its contemporary counterparts.

Aquarius: January 20 - February 18

Intellectual, curious and deeply social are just some of the traits of an Aquarius. For such a free-spirited air sign, these brides-to-be need a unique design that is made from ethical materials.

Look to ring designs with a wave; these can also incorporate unique gemstones for a personalised engagement ring. Or, like a Capricorn, consider melting down a previous jewellery design to create a ring that is a true reflection of you.

Pisces: February 19 - March 20

The final astrological design, Pisces are considerate and are known for being emotionally aware. This water sign, symbolised by two fish swimming away from each other, needs a romantic, modern design to appeal to their empathetic and mystical behaviour.

Consider quirky and contemporary ring styles. You could get a different birthstone placed on the inside of your engagement ring, one each to represent you and your partner. Or, you could experiment with metals and have a two-toned engagement ring with interlapping gold and silver bands.
