How this influencer bride SAVED MORE THAN 8K on her wedding

Bride Isla Rose Potkins shares the budget-busting secrets behind her beautiful wedding in Hampshire

Following her engagement to Chris Potkins on Christmas Eve in 2018, Isla Rose, 25, from Worthing, West Sussex, set to work on the wedding she had always wanted.

Isla, who is an influencer with more than 18,000 followers on TikTok, spoke to luxury diamond jewellers Austen & Blake about how she planned her special day of 100 guests while saving thousands of pounds.

“The wedding theme was based around white roses," begins Isla. "The main inspiration was based on my own personal style, as I am not one for colour and I really wanted to ensure that everything we did at our wedding would be timeless.”

“When picking my wedding dress I didn't actually take any inspiration; I was open to everything and just went for the dress that made me feel the most special. However, after buying my wedding dress, I decided to have detachable sleeves added and the main inspiration for this was taken from Pinterest and also Hailey Bieber's wedding dress shape.”

Isla, who is also a designer, did a lot of wedding DIY to help cut costs while ensuring her vision was achieved: “I probably spent the entire two years leading up to the wedding doing DIYs. I made almost everything, down to stamping the confetti myself and making my wedding shoes. I created all of the stationery including a welcome board, as well as a neon sign and a personalised mirror."

Determined to have her wedding at her dream wedding venue, Northbrook Park in Hampshire, Isla also found a way to make it work for her budget. "Northbrook Park was my dream venue and we made it possible to have our wedding there by having a Friday wedding in November, which saved us around £8k – not to mention that this meant we had the whole weekend to celebrate.”

The same budget-conscious approach was applied to the wedding suppliers Isla chose: “There was 100% lots of negotiating. Like many people when planning a wedding, I didn't quite know what I was in for until I started making enquiries into how much things cost. I always drive a hard bargain so I negotiated on lots of the quotes I originally received.”

“We sourced lots of local suppliers and also did a lot of thrifting for the big day. I managed to get all of my bridesmaids' dresses for £200, and with having no corkage fee and buying all our alcohol on offer, it definitely helped to reduce costs – especially as we took it to the venue ourselves.” Altogether, the wedding cost less than £20,000.

Reflecting on her day, Isla says: “I don't think you can ever imagine how your wedding will be, but it was better than I could have ever imagined. Visually, it was how I imagined, because I had planned exactly how everything would look down to every last detail, but I never could have imagined how amazing the day would be."

Her best tip? “Think outside the box. Decide what is important for you to spend money on and save on everything else. Make use of the skills you already have and take your time with the planning process as that's how you can get the best deals. Also, spreadsheets. This helps you stay organised, figure everything out and budget based on certain parts of the wedding.”
