Policy Expert has found that, on average, guests spend £327 attending a wedding. This total includes the cost of gifts, travel, accommodation and outfits. For guests attending the hen or stag do, this average increases to £576.
The home insurer surveyed more than 6,000 people in the UK and found that guests in Britain spent more than £8.2 billion to watch their loved ones tie the knot in 2018, according to this average.
The survey also found that the average spent on gifts for the happy cople is £59 but members of the wedding party are willing to spend up to £150.

40% of guests prefer to give money as a gift, while 19% prefer to contribute towards the honeymoon cost and 27% choose to stick to the pre-approved gift list. 5% of wedding guests surveyed said they would give a handmade or quirky gift.
Adam Powell, chief operating officer at Policy Expert, says: “If you or a family member is set to walk down the aisle this summer it’s important to check that gifts received from generous guests, as well as wedding rings and other valuables, are covered in your home insurance policy. While it may not be at the top of the checklist it’s an important consideration. The average gift costs £60, so even a modest wedding could bestow you with hundreds if not thousands of pound worth of presents.”
