How do I choose my wedding band?

Jamie Goddard from The Zoots gives us some top tips on how to choose the band for your dream day

When searching for ‘wedding music UK’, Google delivers over 452 million results in just under 0.35 seconds. Needless to say, you are spoilt for choice. Here are a few tips to ensure you are selecting the right band for your day:

1. The internet is a great place to start when choosing your band, but it can be a little overwhelming. Speak to your friends, talk to your venue and suppliers and ask them for band recommendations; good bands will be remembered.

2. Reputable bands will have demos and videos on their website. Listen to them.

3. Allocate a reasonable budget for your band. A professional band will charge between £900 - £2,000. You will get what you pay for.

4. Booking a band directly could save you money and will make the experience more personal from the initial enquiry to the final song.

5. Contact your favourite bands, ask them lots of questions. You will develop a rapport with the right band.

6.‘Follow’ your band on Facebook, and Twitter. This will give you an idea of the type of band they are and if they are right for you.

7. Ask for references/testimonials. Every professional and experienced band will have lots of these.

8. Book your band early, we sometimes get booked two years in advance.

9. Plan your evening meal or buffet to be served in between sets, the food and the band are best enjoyed separately.

10. Your band may have travelled some distance to get to the venue, a cup of tea and sandwich is often very welcome.
