How can you help your guests enjoy your wedding?

One of the nicest things about your wedding is sharing your happiness with your nearest and dearest. When you’re planning your big day there are a few things you should bear in mind, says Emma Lee.

Your guests will no doubt be thrilled to have a wedding invitation land on their doormat.

But as you probably know by now, weddings can be an expensive business – and you’re not the only one who will be watching the pennies.

There’s your guests to consider too – the cost of going to hen and stag dos, hotel accommodation, travel, new outfits and gifts all adds up.

Save the date

Choose a day and send save the date cards or emails as soon as you can, so guests can plan ahead, especially if they need to book time off work.

The venue

If you’re having a separate wedding and reception venue, will you be providing transport for those guests who don’t drive? Include maps, the names and numbers of local taxi firms, public transport options and car parking with the invitation.

Single guests

If you’ve got guests who are not likely to know anyone, suggest people they could share taxis or accommodation with – and perhaps arrange for them to meet before the big day by inviting them to the hen or stag do. If you’re having a formal table plan, seat them next to someone who you think they’ll get on with!

Younger guests

Consider having an area of the reception venue set aside with some colouring books and crayons to stop them getting bored during the speeches.

The menu

Remember to ask your guests to let you know if they have any special dietary requirements.

Accommodation

If you’ve got guests who will need to stay over, include hotel and bed and breakfast options with your invitations to suit different budgets.

Hen dos

You don’t have to break the bank to mark the end of the single life – there are plenty of ways to have fun on a budget. And you don’t have to go down the L-plates and Jaegerbombs route – unless you really want to!

Gift lists

When you’re compiling your gift list, ensure there’s something to suit all budgets.
