Hen party fancy dress themes tailored to the bride

30 Oct 2019

Looking for fancy dress ideas for your hen party? Take a look at these themes and let your imagination run wild

Whether you have some say in your hen party celebrations or your hens are organising the entire thing for you, a fancy dress theme should always be considered. Adding fun and frivolity to the occasion, a day or evening of fancy dress will ensure your hen party won't be forgotten.

Take a look at these costume ideas and share them with your hens so that they can ensure your outfits are planned to perfection.

For the military wife

Soldiers, sailors and pilots, salute! If the bride serves in the military or her partner does, this is a sure-fire fancy dress theme which adds a personal touch.

For the farmer bride

How about Bo Peep and her sheep? This fancy dress idea puts the bride centre stage while maintaining a uniform theme among the hens. Alternatively, you could emulate a farmer and her cows (think cosy onesies complete with udders) or most apt of all - a brood of hens.

For the sporty bride

Ready, set, go! Form your own football, dodgeball or rugby team or dress up as cheerleaders or jockeys and mix in some Olympic-style games during the celebrations for more themed fun.

For the Harry Potter enthusiast

Don your wizarding cloaks, wear your house scarf, brandish your Olivander wands and take flight on your Quidditch broomsticks. If the bride is obsessed with the Harry Potter series, there can only be one theme for her hen do.

For the patriotic bride

If the bride or her partner is Scottish, Welsh or Irish - or has international heritage, pay homage with outfits which strike a chord with her country. Kilts for Scotland, Spanish señoritas, sombreros and tequila shots for Mexico, or Geisha girls for Japan are just a few ideas.

If you are unsure whether the bride will be comfortable with a cultural stereotype, consult with their partner or family first.

For the Disney fanatic

Could Disney be the bride's Mastermind subject? If yes, then Disney should be the hen party fancy dress theme. Dress up as Disney princesses or some of the movies' best-loved characters such as Minnie Mouse, Tinkerbelle and Alice in Wonderland.

For the West End star

Jazz hands at the ready.... With so many looks to recreate from much-loved musicals, the hen party will be spoilt for choice. Ensure the bride is given a character from her favourite musical: think Velma Kelly from Chicago, Dorothy Gale from The Wizard of Oz, Mary Poppins or Fräulein Maria from The Sound of Music.

For the quirky character

When the bride is loud, proud and not afraid to look silly, you can be a bit more creative with your fancy dress theme. Trolls, Smurfs, minstrels and Crayola crayons are just some ideas to get you started.

For the workaholic

If the bride loves her job, then consider a theme which offers a nod to her daily life. Policewomen, secretaries, engineers or teachers (in graduate caps) provide the ideal outfits.

For the pop princess

Choose the bride's favourite popstar and track their transformation through the decades. For example, Britney's iconic schoolgirl, red catsuit and Slave 4 U outfit. Choose a celebrity with plenty of looks to be shared among the group such as Michael Jackson, the Spice Girls or Madonna. Alternatively, ask each hen to come as a popstar of their choice.
