Happy ending for couple who met in warzone

WHEN most couples are asked as to where they first met, the answer would not normally be in the warzone of Iraq.

WHEN most couples are asked as to where they first met, the answer would not normally be in the warzone of Iraq.

But for David and Davina Broadbent this is exactly the case for where their happy relationship started.

And after meeting while serving in the Army in Basra, the two tied the knot in true services style at Davina’s (nee Budd) hometown of WGC last month.

Around 90 close friends and family attended The Holy Family Church wedding before going on to a “brilliant” reception party at The Riding Stables at Hatfield House.

The day was made extra special by a dance where all the guests joined in.

Davina, 30, who was a captain in the Royal Engineers and has medals for her services in Iraq and Afganistan, and David, of Cheshire who was a major in the 1st Battalion Royal Regiment of Fusiliers and spent nine years in the Army, have both since left and are going on a grand tour together, taking in countries in central America, Asia and Australia

On return from their trip, former Holy Family pupil, Davina, of Herns Lane, hopes to complete a PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education) in secondary maths. David, 32, currently an instructor at the RAF Officer Training College, Cranwell, will attend an intermediate command and staff college course in Shrivenham.

Davina is the daughter of Peter and Jeanette and David is the son of Peter and Katherine.

Best man was Major Robin Smith and the bridesmaid was Tori Gregory.
