The grooms can sometimes take a back seat when it comes to wedding planning but, brides, it’s time to step aside - hotel experts Mr & Mrs Smith have launched The Groom’s Room, a hidden online hub where husbands-to-be can plan the perfect honeymoon far from their bride’s eyes.
Taking on the role of chief honeymoon organiser gives sidelined grooms a time to shine, and this service aims to help men create a schmaltz-free, bride-bowling-over beginning to married life.
“Alongside the party play list, we know that it’s the honeymoon that grooms often take the lead on with wedding planning,” explains James Lohan, co-founder of Mr & Mrs Smith, who has been married to Mrs Smith for nine years, aided by the strength of an “excellent honeymoon”. “We also know how much pressure there can be to get it right, so we wanted to give grooms a hand and signpost them to the best boutique hotels with some seriously special experiences thrown in. A honeymoon will be memorable whatever happens, but it can be spectacular with a bit of extra planning. Take it from me it’s worth the effort...”
How does it work?
Grooms submit their name and email address, and are asked one wedding themed question designed to separate brides-to-be from grooms in need of help:
What is a wedding favour?
a) Something never to be discussed with your new in laws
b) A small gift for the guests
c) Seating single people next to each other
If they unlock The Groom’s Room, they get insider hints and tips on how to ensure a
dream beginning to married life.

What’s on offer?
The Groom’s Room features the ultimate list of dos and don’ts, with insider views from those in the know. Grooms will find plenty of suggestions for creating magical moments too, be it galloping across wildflower meadows by the elegantly woodpanelled Ranch at Rock Creek in Montana, or swimming with whale sharks off the coast of Belize while staying at Francis Ford Coppola’s lowkey retreat Turtle Inn.

The GoldSmith membership offered to grooms comes with automatic upgrades on arrival (subject to availability), a free extra at every hotel (such as a private winecellar dining experience for two) and a personal travel concierge on call 24/7. A private tour to the Uffizi? No problem. A table for two with a caldera view at the best restaurant in town? Consider it done.
