Give your guest a feast to remember

A vital factor when ensuring a wedding is a success is the food.

Craig Milnes runs Appetite Catering Ltd, which specialises in culinary excellence on the big day.

His company operates throughout Kent and here are his thoughts on what wedding parties should do to ensure the best meal for their guests.

Craig said: “One of the most memorable things about a wedding is the food, it is also usually the single greatest expense.

“Here are my top tips when choosing a caterer and what to ask them.

“It is always a good idea to choose a professional caterer - an experienced caterer will create the perfect menu at the right price and not insist that you fit into one of their menu selections.

“Get a couple of quotes. Go with a caterer who you feel confident with and one who is flexible.

“The meal should be quoted per person and other costs for equipment hire and staff should be detailed separately.

“Book a caterer early - the good ones get booked very quickly.

“If you are having a set menu - ask for a tasting. Usually caterers provide this free of charge. Take pictures of the food at the tasting to ensure you get the same deal on the day.

“Review the terms and conditions and check cancellation or postponement terms. This will give details of the deposit and when the final payment is due.”

Craig says ask a caterer the following questions:

What is included in the price? Check whether VAT is included or excluded.

Do they cater for vegetarians and special dietary requirements?

What facilities do they require and what equipment would be needed?

How many staff would they recommend for ease of service?

How many bookings do they have on the same day as your special day?

Will your contact be at the reception?

What will the staff wear?

Who is responsible for clearing away equipment?

When are the final numbers required by?

Can unexpected guests be accommodated?

Is there a charge for breakages?
