The home of English Romantic poet William Wordsworth is now available for couples looking to marry in a historic wedding venue. Couples can marry in either Wordsworth's old house or garden, where he spent 37 years of his life.

Situated between Ambleside and Grasmere on a hillside, Rydal Mount has views over Lake Windermere, Rydal Water and the surrounding fells. The dining and drawing rooms are open for wedding guests, and there is also space available for marquees among the sprawling gardens.

Rydal Mount’s gardens have been maintained as Wordsworth designed them, offering fell-side terraces, rock pools and an ancient mound.

Newlyweds are able to plant a tree in the gardens or have a permanent seat installed in their name. The venue also offers a private dining experience at the house for those celebrating their first wedding anniversary.

“Having a wedding in an historic place such as this adds the couple’s beautiful story to the romance of the past,” says wedding manager Annabel Candler. “Rydal Mount continues to be owned by the Wordsworth family and retains the feel of a lived-in family home.”
