Our wedding day was without doubt the best day of our lives, although Chris says it was a close call between that and when Portsmouth won the FA Cup in 2008!
We got married on Friday 13th, so we brought this into the theme with a hand-crafted tag that said ‘Friday 13th was lucky for us, we hope it is lucky for you
I was slightly worried about Chris’s whereabouts on the morning of the wedding. His Facebook profile for Friday 13th suggested he was stuck in France, desperately trying to get back in time.
My dress was by Maggie Sottero and the bridesmaids wore strapless, floor-length dresses in sapphire. Chris wore a grey suit with an ivory waistcoat and matching cravat and handkerchief, while the best men and ushers had indigo blue cravats and handkerchiefs to match the bridesmaids.
My mum, Jenny, made our hand-crafted ivory stationery tied with indigo blue taffeta ribbon and for favours we had indigo blue organza bags containing lottery tickets. Mum was rushed to hospital the day before the wedding with a suspected heart attack. She had to have an operation to have a stent put in. I didn’t know until hours before the wedding whether she would be able to be there. Thankfully it all went well and we were so pleased she was able to make it.
Our cake was hand-decorated with blueberries to match the indigo/navy wedding theme and I carried a hand-tied posy with ribbon detailing and white pearls.
My highlight was seeing Chris and his reaction when he saw me walking down the aisle; also, the reading my brothers, David and Richard, gave during the wedding ceremony. It was a surprise and we didn’t know what they were going to say. They had written a poem between them which had some really thoughtful and meaningful messages.
The speeches went down well. All three were well received and had the right blend of funny and also emotional stories. We hired a photo booth. A copy of each picture was included in a guest book with spaces for our guests to make comments and their best wishes. Everyone said what a good idea it was and it made for a good keepsake and alternative guest book.
