Getting engaged is a big deal, so if two people close to you have agreed to tie the knot, you will no doubt want to mark the occasion with a suitable gift. However, meaningful engagement gifts can be a bit of a headache, especially if the happy couple are already living together and are in possession of all the usual household ‘stuff’.

Rather than prematurely venturing into wedding present territory – steak knives, toasters, crystal champagne flutes, and such like – here’s a great idea: why don’t you gift the couple a special experience instead? One to create even more memories that add to the ones from their wedding day.

Here are five romantic experiences readily available in the UK and online from experience day providers, such as Into the Blue - that the soon-to-be newlyweds may really appreciate.

1. Helicopter dining experience

What’s better than a romantic meal out? Exclusive helicopter dining at a luxury hotel. Give the happy couple a real taste of the high life as they are taken by private helicopter to a luxury country house hotel for a gourmet lunch or afternoon tea in historic surroundings.

Champagne is served on board while there’s a spectacular birds’ eye view of the beautiful countryside stretching out below. It’s a VIP trip of a lifetime and possibly the most romantic journey to a restaurant they'll ever have.

2. Make your own wedding rings

Rather than buying off-the-shelf wedding bands, wouldn’t it be much more personal to actually make your own? Book the newly engaged couple onto an exciting, creative jewellery workshop where they will learn the art and skill of hand-crafting exquisite rings, all under the expert tutelage of a professional jewellery designer.

Before the hands-on part, the couple will get ample opportunity to chat through the design, choice of precious metals, shapes and sizes with an experienced jeweller to make sure everything is perfect on the day. In the workshop itself, expert guidance and complete care and attention will be provided at all times to craft unique wedding rings that mean so much more. The finished pieces will be sent off for hallmarking, with the option of adding engravings or precious stones, before being home-delivered in a presentation box. It’s an incredibly romantic way to produce personalised pieces that will then be exchanged on the big day.

3. Couples photoshoot

Let the betrothed couple show the world how much they love each other by arranging a professional couples photoshoot for them. They’ll be getting the VIP treatment with a makeover, including hair and make-up, and styling experts working their magic to create a range of up-to-the-minute looks that are captured by an experienced fashion photographer.

Photoshoots can take place in the studio and some photographers offer location shoots too. It’s perfect for adoring couples to capture the magic of their love together on camera. They’ll be guided by a professional who will explain the best poses to get the best results. At the end of the exciting day, there’ll be a wide selection of pictures to select from – or couples can choose them all and compile a romantic photo album to treasure forever.

4. Wedding and ‘first dance’ lessons

Here’s a great idea to prepare for the big day. Why not book the two love birds onto a wedding dance workshop? Whether the thought of leading the first dance is a daunting prospect, or they’re accomplished movers wishing to wow the other guests with a special dance routine, personal wedding dance lessons are an ideal present.

The workshop will be completely tailored to the couple’s needs and wishes, including the choice of music and style of dance (ballroom, swing, tango, salsa, rock ‘n’ roll etc) and everything is taught on a one-to-one basis with an experienced dance teacher, who can also advise on all matters of dance etiquette.

It’s the perfect opportunity to improve technique and confidence in the run-up to the wedding day, while allowing the couple to revel in each other’s company in a fun and friendly environment.

5. Partners’ spa weekend

All those wedding preparations can be stressful, so why not treat the happy couple to a pampering spa weekend? Simply one of the most luxurious gifts you can give, what could be better than chilling out with the love of your life?

Let the love birds indulge in professional spa treatments or simply enjoy the pool, sauna and steam room facilities, while letting go of all their daily strains and stresses. A wonderful way to spend a relaxing weekend, this romantic gift of a couples' spa weekend will be hugely appreciated.
