If you’re in the mood for getting married in style and are looking for the right venue to celebrate your big day in beautiful West Sussex, you’re in luck. This Southern county has so many gorgeous wedding venues, the only difficulty you will have is to decide which one to choose. Venue hire specialists Best Venues London share five favourites.

1. Bartholomew Barn, near Petworth

Located close to the charming market town of Petworth, Bartholomew Barn is a beautifully restored barn with old brick walls and a country location that will take your breath away. The Barn provides couples with all they need for both a civil ceremony and a reception and can accommodate up to 100 guests. Natural beauty abounds and in the spring, the dancing bluebells take centre stage.

After the ceremony, guests can make their way out to the courtyard and enjoy a few drinks around the pretty pond. Large umbrellas provide shade for the sun-drenched summer days and patio heaters warm the chill air in the crisper autumn and winter afternoons. The smaller, open-sided barn running the length of the courtyard makes a great location for a hog roast or a sheep on the spit.

2. West Dean College and Gardens, near Chichester

This award-winning venue in a beautifully secluded country estate has great character and charm. West Dean, near Chichester, is the perfect place to hold your marquee wedding reception. Home to West Dean College and Gardens – which provides conservation and creative arts education – this gorgeous venue is reached by an impressive driveway with incredible views of the South Downs.

For a grand outdoor country wedding, a marquee erected in the grounds of West Dean Gardens is just the job. The North Lawn, or Picnic Lawn, is perfect for your reception drinks, and the magnificent gardens make a stunning backdrop for all of your wedding photographs. Guests are welcome to explore the beautiful 300-foot long Edwardian pergola, the award-winning sunken garden, the walled kitchen garden, and the unique Victorian glasshouses.

3. Highley Manor, Balcombe

This magnificent hotel in Balcombe, West Sussex, is the perfect choice for a civil ceremony. The exclusive venue is your home for the day and can be tailored to meet your every need – with the Manor’s beautiful rooms providing perfect reception and banqueting areas.

You and your guests are also welcome to stay over in one of the 19 bedrooms. The ceremony can be performed in the charming former Shelley family chapel, while the signing of the register can take place in the Poet’s Room.

4. South Lodge Hotel, near Horsham

If your idea of a fbulous wedding venue is a gold clawfoot bath, filled with tea-flavoured bubbles, cherry-red rhododendrons and classy cuisine prepared by a Michelin TV chef, then South Lodge is for you. The five-star Jacobethan mansion with yellow Bradstone brick partially covered in wisteria, features 93 acres of parkland. The stylish outdoor wedding pavilion, with the beautiful backdrop of the South Downs, is a charming space. In winter, your guests can keep warm and snug in front of roaring log fires, and the multitude of lit candles add to the romantic atmosphere

There are 12 beautiful suites where wedding breakfasts for up to 150 people can be served. For evening events South Lodge can accommodate up to 250, and your options include a wedding buffet, fine-dining feast, or a more formal seated affair with cuisine produced by the Lodge’s award-winning chefs. And because South Lodge is licensed for civil ceremonies, the whole day - from wedding ceremony to retiring for the evening, can be hosted here.

5. Chichester Harbour Hotel

Exchange your vows in style in the fabulous cathedral city of Chichester. This beautiful Grade II listed Georgian hotel is filled with charm and a fairytale romance. There are gorgeous views of Chichester Cathedral and the beautiful Priory Park.

The hotel offers a number of exclusive wedding suites, depending on the size of your guest list. There’s the opulent restaurant with its beautifully-prepared food and wonderful ambience, and the 36 luxury boutique bedrooms, where you and your guests can stay in on the night before the wedding. There’s also a very private and exclusive cottage where the couple can book in on the night of the wedding. The facilities are five-star and include a secluded, private terrace with patio heaters and seating.

The elegant Priory suite is licenced for weddings for up to 30 guests, making it the perfect choice for a more intimate ceremony. For larger weddings of up to 80 guests, couples can choose The Guildhall. It has a wonderfully stylish staircase – perfect for wedding pictures, its own private bar and a large dance floor.
