A Pregnant Bride in Fairytale Winter Wedding: Faye Currie & Lee Slattery

Faye’s Cheshire winter wedding to England golf professional, Lee, is enough to convince anyone that fairytales really do come true

The wedding colour theme was dusky pink, taupe, silver and navy, but it wasn’t just the plethora of dream-worthy details that made this Cheshire wedding stand out from the crowd.

“Whilst planning our wedding we found out that I was pregnant with our fist child - we where overjoyed!” says Faye. “Our original date had been set for 28th November 2014 and that baby was due in March 2014.” However, they were not all happy discoveries that marked their planning process. “During our initial discussions, we also discovered that my dad had been diagnosed with terminal cancer. We then decided to bring the wedding forward to that Christmas.”



The added strain of time constraints would turn many to madness, but Lee and Faye’s wedding came together in a fairytale-like two days: “The whole two days were amazing and special and something I will hold it in my heart every day,” says Faye. “Every person made it special, there is so much love and everyone was so happy for us. I felt like I was in my own Disney movie and I was the princess, Lee was the prince, and we were the ones with the ‘happily ever after’.”

With Disney’s Cinderella This is Love serenading Faye down the aisle, we are inclined to agree that this is one bride who really did achieve her wedding day dreams. Faye tells us more about their big day.


It must have been both an exhilarating, but also stressful, time – how did you cope with planning a wedding?
I was lucky enough to get help from the most amazing wedding planner, Andrea, from Fabulous Day. She was what I could call my fairy godmother. I didn't know where to turn and she made the whole process beautiful, stress free and magical: only the best advice, she handled all of the numbers, the phone calls and the organising.


With being pregnant, did you find it difficult to find a wedding dress?
Andrea organised an appointment with a bridal shop in Hale called Lace - the staff where amazing, and understanding. I was worried that I wouldn't look beautiful as a bride, as I would be 7 months pregnant, however they found me the most beautiful dress! The designer, Sabina Motasem, lived in London and she came up twice before Christmas to fit me and my expanding baby bump. The dress was delivered on the 28th December and our wedding was booked on the 2nd Jan. Every moment was magical.


One (of the many) standout features of your day is the floral arrangements – tell us a bit about them.
We met with the talented and brilliant Matt from Red Floral. I met a few florists but Matt was so inspiring and lovely - I wanted to go with him. I had this idea for a magical winter forest and he made all my dreams come true, and more. Orchids hanging with pinecones and tea lights suspended from the chandeliers. I cried when I saw my bouquet… I couldn’t have imagined such beauty and splendour! I had asked for an organic and forest feel bouquet: the result was frosted berries and curling twigs in a raindrop shaped masterpiece incorporating the themes perfectly.
The colour theme we chose was dusky pink, taupe, silver and navy. Matt came in halfway through the girls and I getting ready. We all screamed when we saw how beautiful the flowers were! I cried with joy - each bouquet was unique and beautiful, with pinecones and berries and winter flowers. The sun was streaming through the large Victorian windows on a bright and crisp day… I knew it was going to be magical.


What did you look for in your winter wedding venue?
The venue, Iscoyd Park in Whitchurch , had that feeling of elegance and a homely quality – it was not showy, and we loved the people - they where so accommodating. The house was picturesque with antique rugs, high ceilings, wooden floors and soft candle lighting… we felt, most of all, very comfortable and knew our families would love it. 



How did you feel the night before?
On the day I couldn't sleep. Lee had gone with Craig and was at the guest hotel. I text mum at 5am and she text me right back, we were both too excited to sleep! Mum came into my room and we talked and talked and talked - it was so special to have that time with her before the day had started. She told me how proud she was, how much she loved me and how she knew Lee and I would be together forever. Mum held my hand and told me that real love only happens once, and to treasure it forever. 



How did you feel as you walked down the aisle?
The gorgeous Helen England sang This is Love from Cinderella as I walked down the aisle. Seeing Lee standing there looking at me was the most overwhelming feeling. Knowing that you want to spend your life with someone and knowing that you’ve never been more in love and will be in love forever feels very special. I feel very lucky to have met my soul mate, he is unquestionably the love of my life and at that moment I couldn't feel my feet.
My dad was so proud of me all I could feel was his arm holding me strongly. As I reached the front, Lee held my hand and I felt like I had magic inside of me, pouring out. The room was filled with love and joy. Joy to be Lee’s wife, joy to be a mother... joy that my dad was here happy and well, to see me marry the man of my dreams… and one he loved and respected like his own son.


How did you choose to document the day?
Adam Johnson of ARJ photography was our photographer and he was brilliant - his work will stand the test of time, it’s truly art work more that just wedding photography.

Weddings are really all about those little details – what surprises laid in store for your guests?
The photobooth by Hipswing was great and everyone got to take prints home, too. I had made, for everyone’s placemat, a little key with a tag that said ‘drink me’. After the meal was the start of cocktail hour, where we had a cocktail that Lee and I had designed with sparkly liqueur for everyone to have.



And the wedding cake?
My bridesmaid sarah made our wedding cake and loads of cupcakes; they where themed like tree bark, but ivory and sparkly, organic and beautiful. Nothing too showy, we had the first tier fruit cake, then we had chocolate with orange flavour icing. The cupcakes were lemon and vanilla. Matt set up the wedding breakfast with logs and real snow; the cakes were mounted on a cake stand that I had made out of logs and a tree branch that’s in our garden now. 


What else did you have on the menu?
The food was amazing. Rupert from Fine Dining Company had let us design our own menu. We went to his premises and he cooked lots of ideas we had given him, for dessert we did our three favourites with a twist: lemon meringue tart, rhubarb crumble and jaffa-cake bomb with popping candy. The food was not only sensational to eat, it was art on a plate!


What else stands-out as a memorable moment for you?
Lee’s speech was amazing; he had everyone laughing and crying. There was a moment where he thanked everyone and his parents for helping him follow his dreams, and for welcoming me into the family and he thanked my parents for that too - I felt like time was standing still. I was enjoying every moment, it was so special. Dad’s speech was the first speech and he spoke of how love is special and how fairytales do come true.


Finally, where did you head on your honeymoon?
Lee surpassed himself with a getaway to the Lake District, to the Gilpin, and a mummy-to-be massage. We had a log cabin, a hot tub and Llamas… I love Llamas!
