After I accepted Nathan’s proposal he told me he had already picked a date and booked the church! It was very organised of him but left us only ten months to plan the day!

The ceremony was to take place at our regular church, St Oswald’s in Fulford, so we just needed a reception venue and we came across The Hawkhills in Easingwold. We wanted the venue to be exclusively ours, and to have an elegant but relaxed feel. We knew immediately that it was the place for us.

I then began to look for a dress. I knew my ideal gown would be simple, but elegant – reminiscent of my grandmother’s beautiful 1930s style dress. I found ‘the one’ at Elizabeth of York. It had layers of tulle, chiffon, and net with crystal work on the bodice and exquisite floral applique detailing on the shoulders, skirt, and train.

My brother’s artistic skills helped create the designs for our stationery, based on the clean, chic designs of Rennie Mackintosh and we chose a classic, off-white and green colour scheme.

On the morning of the wedding I felt excited but calm. My bridesmaid Sam and I got up early and headed to the hair salon, closely followed by our photographer Jim.

The weather was perfect. Dad and I travelled to the church, chauffeured by my brother and arrived with ten minutes to spare. Once inside, it was wonderful to see all our family and friends and the church looked amazing. The Hawkhills also looked stunning, just as we had envisaged. Guests were gathered on the lawn before the wedding breakfast was served. Later we enjoyed a number of garden games and strolls around the grounds. In the evening we were treated to some wonderful displays of fire juggling by Nathan’s university friends, rockets and a Chinese lantern. Our first dance was to ‘Everything’ by Michael Bublé. Many of our guests thought it was choreographed, but actually Nathan made it up as we went along!

All in all we had a truly memorable day thanks to our multi-talented and generous family and friends.
