At the London Venue awards held on 5th October, Eltham Palace received the bronze award in the Best Wedding category. Elizabeth McGowan, head of hospitality events and filming at English Heritage, attended the ceremony at The Hulingham Club’s Georgian clubhouse in Fulham with colleague Daisy Bradley, national hospitality manager, and Eltham Palace’s hospitality manager Maxine Reynolds and hospitality coordinator Annabelle Gardiner.
Elizabeth says that both Eltham Palace and English Heritage are “delighted” at the announcement.

Eltham Palace and Gardens, cared for by the charity English Heritage, is a mixture of modern and medieval architecture. The medieval palace is situated in south-east London and is known to have been a childhood residence of King Henry VIII. It was remodelled in the 1930s by owners Stephen and Virginia Courtauld who transformed the palace with art deco designs. The couple frequently hosted events at the palace for their social circle and even royalty on occasion; Queen Mary visited the Palace twice.

Couples marrying at Eltham Palace can host their celebrations in the domed, wood panelled entrance hall, the medieval Great Hall and the moated garden. Elizabeth says: “An Eltham Palace wedding is the perfect marriage of style and history, a unique opportunity to celebrate your nuptials within the vintage glamour of one of England’s best art deco houses and the medieval grandeur of a royal Great Hall.”
