EDP Bride: The Wedding Awards Best Wedding Stationery Provider, Finalist Q&A: Frog & Pencil
13 Jan 2017
The finalists of the EDP Bride: The Wedding Awards 2017 have been announced and ahead of the red carpet ceremony at Dunston Hall on Friday, 27th January, we get to know them a little better
Claire Grint, illustrator and owner of Frog & Pencil - a finalist in the Best Wedding Stationery Provider category, answers our Q&A.
Frog & Pencil
What geographic area does your business cover? I’m based in Norwich, however the beauty of stationery is that I’m not restricted to a particular locality; anyone anywhere can commission me.
How long has your business been running? I officially launched Frog & Pencil at the start of February 2016 which makes it 10 months, so I’m still very new to the industry.
What does your business do? How does it stand out from the competition? Frog & Pencil creates bespoke wedding stationery which ranges from save the dates, invitations and maps through to on the day details such as table plans, menus and name cards. Bespoke design is a large part of my business, however I also offer ready-to-write invitations, bridesmaids' cards and in the new year, semi-bespoke collections, so there’s a choice for everyone.
What makes me stand out is my unconventional approach to wedding stationery as I offer something a little less traditional. I believe that couples should be unashamedly themselves on their wedding day and that their stationery should reflect their personalities. Inspired by couples' stories, I lovingly hand-paint quirky illustrative designs that are colourful, playful, fresh and sophisticated but most importantly, personal.
Why did you enter the 2017 EDP Bride: The Wedding Awards? I noticed many posts on social media about the wedding awards and had somehow convinced myself that I was far too new to nominate Frog & Pencil. When I spotted the deadline approaching I couldn’t get the idea of entering out of my head. I may be new, but I’ve worked hard this year to launch my business and I’m proud of what I’ve achieved, so why not give it a whirl? I originally entered for Best Newcomer and then with a little encouragement, I put Frog & Pencil in for Best Stationer too. To the encouragement nudger, thank you.
What was your reaction to the announcement of your business as a finalist? Honestly? I instantly rang my husband to share the news and then I cried in front of my laptop for about 20 minutes. I didn’t have any expectations for these awards and was delighted to find myself as a nominee. I’m simply over the moon to be a finalist and I don’t think I’ve stopped smiling since. Truthfully, I’m still in shock, but mostly I feel overjoyed and proud of what I’ve achieved so far; it’s certainly the icing on the cake for me.
What are you most looking forward to at the EDP Bride: The Wedding Awards ceremony on 27th January, 2017, at Dunston Hall? Aside from seeing my husband in a tux, I’m excited to spend time with like-minded, creative people and enjoy this moment together. Norfolk and the local area is just bursting with talent and I can’t wait to celebrate that glorious fact.
