After being forced to cancel their wedding back in April due to COVID-19, Rebecca Hughes and Neil Simms were determined to share their nuptials after lockdown with a Covid-19 safe and eco-friendly wedding.
With the duo’s shared passion for the environment, Rebecca and Neil, were reluctant to use plastic PPE after seeing images of discarded plastic masks
However, due to fears surrounding Covid-19 the couple felt compelled to ensure the safety of their two witnesses and registrar during their wedding ceremony on July 24.
Looking for a proactive solution, the couple found Plastic Free PPE Flip Visors to ensure they could press ahead with the ceremony. Developed by international campaign group A Plastic Planet, Reelbrands and Tams Packaging the lightweight, clear, plastic free flip visors protect users without adding to plastic pollution.

Bride, Rebecca Hughes, said: “Every couple choosing to marry in 2020 will have to compromise. We both felt, especially after lockdown, our wedding was an opportunity to create a positive new normal and to be more environmentally conscious in our decision making. The REELshield Flip Visor became a fun and essential part of our day - even protecting us from the British rain. The visor’s transparency also allowed us to see everyone’s smile.”
Sian Sutherland, co-founder of A Plastic Planet, said: “It was heart-breaking to hear how Rebecca and Neil were desperate to get married, but didn’t want to see their wedding cost the planet.
“There is so much fear surrounding Covid-19, it’s inspiring to see this couple lead by example and beat the odds; plastic PPE visors are used once and then exist centuries. Regardless of how badly they wanted to marry, they were determined not to sacrifice nature in doing so. Everyone at A Plastic Planet wishes them all the best for the future.”
The Plastic Free PPE range is the first protective equipment to receive A Plastic Planet’s Plastic Free Trust Mark accreditation.
