Online marketplace eBay has revealed its top 2018 wedding trends
In response to the upcoming weddings of Meghan and Harry and Eugenie and James, online marketplace eBay.co.uk has compiled a list of 2018 wedding trends. From pink gowns to doughnut walls, here are the results of its research.
Pink Sapphire
Princess Eugenie’s pink sapphire engagement ring has had a tangible influence on those looking for engagement rings, with the amount of searches for ‘pink sapphire’ doubling during the week of the announcement compared to the previous week.
Blushing Brides
Brides-to-be are following in the footsteps of Agyness Deyn and Gwen Stefani and opting for a blush pink wedding dresses. There were nearly 600 searches – i.e. one search per hour – in the month of January for the coloured gowns. With almost 160,000 current listings for wedding dresses on the site, and 170,000 white dresses sold in the last three months, the online marketplace has a vast range of styles available.
Doughnuts
In keeping with the rising popularity of dessert tables and the decline of the traditional wedding cake, eBay saw nearly 400 searches for ‘doughnut wall’ in the month of January. With almost 20,000 posts using the hashtag #donutwall on Instagram, it’s clear that doughnut walls are a key trend for 2018.
You’ve Got Mail
There was a clear focus on wedding stationery at the beginning of the year, with data showing that January 1st is the most popular day to search for invitations. There were also more than 7,000 searches for ‘wedding post box’ in the month of January. Currently, the website has close to 10,000 listings for wedding stationery, with everything from watercolours to rustic country invitations available.
Wedding Arches
With celebrities like the Kardashians displaying colourful balloon and flower structures at social events, brides planning spring and summer weddings are following the example; there were nearly 1,000 searches for ‘wedding arch’ in the month of January.
