Double celebrations

Sisters Kirstie and Katie Harris both celebrated their weddings at Tylney Hall in Hampshire

Two sisters who announced their engagements in the same year and both married two years later also celebrated their nuptials at the same hotel.

As Kirstie and Katie Harris got ready to follow each other down the aisle they initially planned to have two very different weddings, but things changed when they both fell in love with Tylney Hall in Hampshire. As a result they both celebrated their ‘big days’ at the country house hotel at Rotherwick, near Hook, but still had their wishes granted for two distinct and unique marriages.

Kirstie, 26, had a summer wedding when she married Aaron Caister and 23 year old Katie rang in the changes when she married Mark Tosdevine in the run-up to Christmas. More than 100 guests attended each celebration, with around half attending both.

After the sisters got engaged in 2010 they set the date for 2012 and with their parents, Vanessa and Ross Harris, started looking at numerous venues in the area around their home in Ashford Hill, Berkshire.

‘To begin with we didn’t know they were going to get married in the same year, but once we got over the surprise we got down the planning,’ said Vanessa. ‘I started looking at venues with Kirstie and shortlisted around eight. There were certain things we were looking for such as a nice garden for photos and, as Kirstie was also going to get married at the venue, it was important that the ceremony room had character and was separate from the banqueting suite where the wedding reception was going to be held.

‘We were shown around Tylney Hall and really liked it. We returned several times for meals and stayed overnight to see it at different times of the day.’

With Kirstie and Aaron’s wedding booked for August, the family continued the search for the perfect venue for Katie’s wedding reception.

‘Initially she had thought about getting married in Winchester but then decided to get married in the village church, St Paul’s,’ said Vanessa. ‘Again we went to wedding fayres in the area and looked at different hotels and then Katie asked if it would be alright to look at Tylney Hall. So we went there for lunch and as we were going up the long drive Katie said ‘wow’. We didn’t have an appointment but asked if it would be possible for Katie to look around and they couldn’t have been more helpful and accommodating.

‘When we got back Katie asked Kirstie if she would mind if she had her wedding there as well and she didn’t at all, so it was booked for December.’

The family gave top marks to Tylney Hall, rating everything from the pre-wedding arrangements through to the wedding breakfasts, toastmaster, evening buffets, accommodation and overall service as ‘excellent’.

‘While it was the same hotel and both receptions were held in the Chestnut Suite the weddings were very different,’ said Vanessa. ‘They were at completely different times of the year so Kirstie’s photographs have the backdrop of the gardens in the summer and for Katie’s wedding the hotel was decorated for Christmas. The girls also chose different flowers and menus.

‘We very pleased with our choice of venue and the hotel has such a fantastic and dedicated team that made everything very easy.’
