Inspired and named after my maternal grandmother, I wanted to bring the veil forward and to stop it being relegated to the back of any bridal boutique.
Up to 2009 when I launched Dornellie, most veils were considered a last minute addition to a brides special day but I feel it should be an integral part of the process as it adds so much romance to any gown.
It is the only day a woman can truly be a princess and get away with it!!
My mission is to inspire brides to start with the veil/headpiece and create a unique image for her special day.
As an ex costume maker I design with drama, glamour and elegance in mind combined with my skill as a maker.
I worked on many theatre productions and film including Lion King, Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, Love Never Dies as well as Pirates of the Caribbean 2, Prince of Persia and Elizabeth the Golden Age. Also many nation and international operas and ballets.
Everything is made by hand using the best materials and all my years of experience to create a unique and high quality item each time.
A bride can choose from my collections or bring her own personality to the item by having a bespoke design created.
My current collection has a vintage feel but is still very contemporary and can be made in a variety of colours if required.
The new collection is in production and I cannot wait to show you the new designs!!!!
I also will take on gown commissions if a bride is not wanting to compromise on her wedding outfit.
I will work closely with all my brides combining all their ideas and likes, taking body shape into consideration but more importantly, the personality of the bride.
We will have an initial consultation to determine an idea of design , then a toile will be produced to get size, fit, proportions and style right and do that a few times if needed to ensure the perfect design. then fabric choice and embellishments will be finalised and the finished gown created.
Although now based on the beautiful Isle of Wight, I work with many mainland suppliers to create inspirational images with an alternative edge.
One set of these collaborations is Coocouture_The Unconventional Wedding Collective and we have jut completed our first shoot.
The Theme; the Scientist
The style: Edwardian Steampunk.
I have as a result of my bridal work, invented an innovative waterproof product called Rainaway bride.
It is a totally water repellent cloak with an elasticated hem which will hold a gown up from puddles and mud allowing a bride to walk unaided but still staying completely clean and dry.
The large hood covers the whole head and protects hair and makeup from the falling rain and wind.
You can also purchase wedding wellies in cream or paste pink from my website too and have total wet weather wedding day protection.
