Destination wedding dresses – 5 top tips

Designer Elizabeth Stuart gives brides looking for a gown for their dream destination wedding five tips on finding the perfect one

Don’t be afraid to personalise

I know that women put emphasis on finding ‘the one’, but don’t be afraid to ask if you want a few changes to your dream dress. This is especially true of a summer destination wedding as sleeve lengths might need to be altered depending on your wedding location and climate.  It is important to use the knowledge of your bridal consultant as we love working with brides to make sure that their dress is personal to them.

Consider your location

This might seem like an obvious statement, but it is important to think about your wedding vision especially if you are getting married abroad. If you have your heart set on certain flowers check that they are available and in season at your chosen location. You want your wedding day to mirror your vision completely, so that it will be a magical day for you both.

Stay true to your style

I always encourage my brides to be opened minded when trying on dresses, as a dress you may not have originally chosen could turn out to be ‘the one’. However it is important to stay true to your typical style, so that you feel like the most stunning version of yourself.

Think about fabrics

It is important to think about how you will transport your dress, as some fabrics travel better than others. For example, some dresses just need to be hung up and the creases will drop, while others will need to be steamed. We always offer tips and advice for our brides of how to care for dress once it has arrived at your wedding destination.

Have fun

My final summer destination tip is to enjoy yourself. There can be added stress when planning a wedding abroad and it’s so important to appreciate all your family and friends coming together at your chosen destination. If you are getting married in an exotic beach location, take full advantage of the stunning scenery to capture moments with your new husband and your loved ones. After all, the memories that you create on your special day will be with you forever.
