Deeply in love: The wedding of Dave and Clare Palmer

The wedding of Dave and Clare Palmer at The Deep, Hull

On the morning of the wedding I had all the people I love around me. As the wedding wasn’t until 5pm, we spent all day getting ready, giggling, drinking champagne and doing hair and make-up. As a hairdresser I had specific ideas on how I wanted my bridesmaids to look. They both had matching chignons and pretty hair slides and looked absolutely beautiful! It was such a special time having them around me, I think that was the reason I was fairly calm and relaxed!

The ceremony is such a blur. I can barely remember making our vows as it just seemed to pass so quickly. I do, however, remember looking over Dave’s shoulder the whole time, as I knew if I looked at him that I’d cry. In fact, at one point I was worried that I’d married the best man as I looked at him more than I did my groom! I remember feeling nervous during the build up to the wedding because we’d have to speak our vows in front of so many people, but it felt like we were the only ones in the room. I forgot that all our friends and family were watching.

We were lucky enough to get some shots outside The Deep, just as the sun was setting. The kids greeted us with bubbles and smiles at the reception. The view from the observatory was breathtaking and the candlelit reception room looked stunning against the dark autumn sky.

Dave had been worrying about his speech so was able to relax as soon as that was over. The evening entertainment then started downstairs with The Candy Bar. We didn’t have a wedding cake, but made up for it by stacking chocolate donuts and cupcakes on a stand and to be honest, I don’t think anyone even noticed a cake was missing.

Instead of a first dance, I sang to my new husband. The words to ‘The Story’ by Brandi Carlile are especially emotional and I nearly cracked half way through, but the guests gave me the biggest cheer of encouragement so I was able to carry on. I’ll be in trouble for saying it, but even the men were in tears!
