David and Gemma's beautiful wedding in Cambridgeshire

21 Aug 2014

Daniel and Gemma brought all the fun of the seaside to their wedding in landlocked Cambridgeshire, which came complete with seashells and sticks of rock

I’ve always wanted to get married in a church and Dan agreed, so we chose Holy

Trinity as I was christened there. For our reception venue we wanted something that would hold all our friends and family.

I hadn’t given much thought to my dress. I wanted something simple and understated but still with the wow factor. I tried on a few, but when I slipped this one on I knew it was the one for me. It was an A-line gown with sweetheart neckline, ‘You’ by Pronovias.

My colour scheme was plum purple, but I also had two of my bridesmaids in a dusky rose pink. We had a beach theme as Daniel proposed on a beach. Tables were named after beaches we have visited together, our centrepieces were mini beaches with glass bowls filled with sand and seashells and I had custom-made napkins designed with seashells on them for the top table. Everyone got a purple stick of rock with our names running through. I also had a table with sweets you would usually find at the seaside in buckets with sand, spades and little fans.

My mum, Jane, and sister, Natalie, who was my maid of honour, both helped me buy little bits and helped make and deliver my handmade invitations.

At the reception my dad bought the main wedding party a ‘haggis bomb’ (the Scottish version of Jager bombs made with Iron Bru instead of Red Bull) to say cheers. As he is Scottish he wanted to introduce them to everyone – and they were also what we drank in Edinburgh on my hen party. The bar brought in the Iron Bru especially for them.
