Couple scoop dream wedding at Yorkshire venue

30 Jan 2020

Kelly Williams and David Holmes won a competition to host their wedding at The Devonshire Arms Hotel and Spa, Bolton Abbey

Kelly and David from Congleton in Cheshire were announced as the winners of The Devonshire Arms Hotel and Spa's competition to win a wedding package worth £7,000.

The competition asked entrants to submit their love stories, detailing why they deserved to win and with almost 800 entries received, Kelly and David beat off stiff competition to secure the prize.

Rachael Leister, marketing manager at The Devonshire Arms Hotel and Spa, says: "It was exceptionally hard to select a winner from so many couples, all of whom had shared special stories and life circumstances that made them a deserving couple. In the end it was the love story of David and Kelly who met while volunteering for a Manchester homeless charity, which eventually led to a traditional proposal by the banks of the River Liffey in Dublin where Kelly was living at the time.

"David, a true romantic, had kept his gran’s engagement ring in a drawer 12 years on from her passing, before presenting it to Kelly and asking for her hand in marriage. I am sure that his grandma would be so proud of his old-fashioned sentiment, and what a touching story. We later found out that David’s dad was from nearby Skipton, so it really does feel meant to be."

The couple will enjoy the hospitality of the four-star country house hotel on their big day, which offers beautiful panoramic views of the Dales. Hosting 70 guests, the day will feature a three-course wedding breakfast created by head chef Peter Howarth and his team, as well as a chocolate Guiness cake by Fran of Every Cloud Cakes & Bakes.

They will also receive the services of competition sponsors Georgina Brewster Photography, Ambience Venue Styling, Every Cloud Cakes & Bakes, Vanessa Wellock from Wildflowers Florist and DJ Ziggy of Hi-Life Entertainment.

Kelly and David, who are thrilled to have won, have already started planning their spring wedding by setting a date, creating their own hand-designed invitations and choosing flowers. Kelly has even found her wedding dress.
