Owner of City Brides Ltd Juliette Bendell tells us about her bridal fashion business in Norwich
Tell us about your business
City Brides Ltd is a small, independent business that has been trading for over ten years. We love what we do and we love our designer labels, too. We believe in a fun, relaxed, non-pushy atmosphere for every bride-to-be.
Which designers do you stock?
We stock designers such as Stella York, Morilee, Madi Lane and Martina Liana.
What should brides keep in mind when looking for their wedding dress?
Choosing the most dearest ones to come along with you to get an ideal on style.
When should brides start their wedding dress shopping?
A year beforehand is ideal, as our dresses can take six months to arrive.
What should brides bring with them when they are looking for their wedding dress?
Nothing, just themselves. Wearing good covering underwear is something to consider. As consultants, we do get up close and personal while helping you.
How many people do you recommend to bring dress shopping?
No more than two guests, but we never limit numbers. Just bear in mind that too many opinions can be overwhelming.
How many dresses should a bride try on?
There’s no limit – the average in two hours can be anywhere up to 15 different dresses, with some repeating similar styles.
How will a bride know when she’s found the one?
When you find your lifetime partner, you know, right? Well, looking for a wedding gown is much the same – you'll know it once you have found it.
What styles are currently on trend?
Square necklines after the Beckham wedding. Fit and flare, and gentle A-line styles are still very much trending.
What is your best tip for wedding dress shopping?
Relax and let the consultant guide you. We are here to help you and we are armed with all the best knowledge and experience in helping you find the right dress.
