Cheshire, Lancashire & Staffordshire Spas for the Stressed North West Bride
27 Jul 2015
Along with moving house, planning a wedding is up-there as one of the most stressful live events you'll experience. So if you're feeling the strain, take some time for much-needed rest and respite at one of these inviting spas in the north west - go on, you know you deserve it!
1. Stanley House Hotel and Spa in Mellor
With under a month until her wedding, Bride editor Amanda Griffiths took some much-needed time for rest and respite at Stanley House Hotel and Spa. She travelled to Lancashire to try the C+C Vitamin Facial at The Spa at Stanley House Hotel – a treatment she was told was just perfect for the bride-to-be. She tells us about the day:
“Booked in for a two-hour Thermal Bathing session, we hurriedly got changed (in our own private changing cubicles with showers, in the main changing room) before being shown into the spa’s thermal suite with Herbal Sauna, Aroma Steam Room, Salt Steam Room, Finnish Sauna, tropical showers, ice experience and Hydrotherapy Pool and Jacuzzi,” says Amanda.
The idea behind thermal bathing is that it improves breathing and cleanses the body while enhancing the benefits of spa treatments. “As I let the heat warm my muscles I could feel all wedding (and work) stress melting away – a brisk rub down from the ice fountain (I’m told this improves circulation) was the break I needed before heading into the next heated paradise,” says Amanda. Next, she tried the Finnish sauna, which offered a floor-to-ceiling window overlooking the pond and the Ribble Valley countryside. “While I basked in the heat, I could see the trees and bushes bending in the wind.”
In the couples’ treatment room, Amanda and her companion trialled the Ananda Facial and the C+C Vitamin version. “Curious as to what makes this perfect for brides, my therapist explained it was very nourishing, good for brightening the skin and with the collagen in the products used, perfect for plumping the skin to make it its most radiant. It was divine, I was even given a choice of what I wanted while the mask was on – so no grimacing through a scalp massage (I prefer an arm and neck massage every time).”
The spa retreat can be completed with dinner at The Grill on The Hill (no doubt un-doing any good done in the spa, but indulgently enjoyable none-the-less), enjoying locally-sourced food and reflecting on the events to come.
The end result? A very blissed-out bride to be! “My skin still feels fabulous and I feel ready to tackle the last month of table plans, first dance choices, decorations and more that I have yet to tackle,” concludes Amanda, who stayed in a luxury Woodland bedroom.
