New research has revealed that UK wedding guests will spend an average of £479 on each wedding they attend
In a recent survey of over 2,000 adults, American Express has found that wedding guests will spend nearly a week’s salary on every wedding they attend.
Splashing the cash on everything from gifts to accommodation, the costs can amount to £479 - £24 less than the UK average weekly salary.
A breakdown of the costs can be found below:
- Gifts - £102
- Travel - £94
- Outfit - £75
- Hotel / accommodation - £74
- Hen / stag dos - £58
- Drinks - £48
- Hair & beauty - £28
But it seems that the nation are aware of these costs, attempting to manage their budgets with 52% looking to shop in the sales for their outfit, 59% looking to recycle old outfits and a further 46% using rewards or loyalty cards on their pre-wedding purchases.
Jenny Cheung, director at American Express said: "While a wedding was once considered extremely costly for the bride's father, our study shows that guests face a significant bill. With this in mind, it's never been more important to get your finances in order so you can have fun when it comes to the big day.”
