Bride’s blog: Charlotte and James tie the knot

We were thrilled that the sun shined down on James and Charlotte when they tied the knot in April – on the same day as the Royal couple no less. Below Charlotte gives her account of the big day. For the full article and more images don’t forget to buy the next issue of Pure Weddings this autumn.

I spent the night before with the girls and my friend Lizzie Johns came over to do all our nails. That was my first real nervous point and we were watching so much wedding stuff on TV!

My matron of honour Debbie and bridesmaid Claire stayed overnight with me so the morning of the wedding was so filled with excitement. Clair brought breakfast and we sat watching the Royal wedding build up. It was amazing- the whole world was watching and waiting.

I had a call from Heart fm and spoke to them live on the radio. It was rather exciting.

We started out by going to Ufford park for hair and make-up. Hairways did my hair. Emma came in (as she was closed that day). She was fantastic and my hair looked just stunning. She also did Debbie’s. It was so nice just us sitting in the salon and listening to the radio.

We went to the reception to put out overnight bag away and the lady said the room was ready. It really hit me because it said Mr and Mrs Durrant.

The next major move was back to the house to get my dress on and to watch the Royal wedding. My dress needed a lot of help getting into. It was a corset (which took two people) and then the back with buttons. So as you can imagine it took a while. As we did this we saw Kate’s dress and my heart jumped. She looked amazing and it finally hit me. It was a major event and it was on our wedding day.

My friends were all around me. Debbie, Claire, Alli, my mum, dad and sister. My friend Alli’s daughter came to do the girl’s hair. And then the cars arrived which were my bridesmaids’ husbands Steve and Steve – so to say the least the house was manic!

The house just felt fantastic. My friends from work Gerda and Irene arrived then my friend Debbie said it was time to move.

We arrived slightly early at the church so we drove around the block with my heart beating so fast and the nerves really kicking in. Once at the church we met Olga the photographer. She was lovely and made us feel at ease.

As I walked into the church I heard the music. Everybody stood up and I was walking to meet James.

The ceremony was amazing. Nicola (our vicar) just made us feel at ease and it went really well. It felt really quick and then it was time for more photos and time to see everybody. We went onto Aldeburgh beach for more photos and had our interview with Elli from ITV. It was very surreal really.

We met our horse and carriage and I was totally taken aback. It was so lovely and looked amazing and they took us to Ufford Park.

At Ufford Park Keith was just amazing. Everything was just so organised and went so smoothly. We had photos taken everywhere (kindly thanks to Tarnia at Ufford). It was amazing – talk about VIP treatment. Everybody commented on the wonderful food and service. The wedding cake (Jean from Amazing Cakes) was so lovely.

The room dressing looked amazing and Wedding Creative did a fantastic job. It looked magical. The tables were dressed and looked so good. The flowers looked really bright and just stood out. The cupcakes also looked so yummy.

Our colours were purple and orange so it really did stand out. Everything was breathtaking.

James’s speech was amazing. He had everyone in tears and all the other speeches went so well.

It was truly the most amazing day and we both enjoyed every second. The competition gave us the most perfect day. We danced into the evening and it was funny really we had Your Song in the church and our first dance was Adele’s Make You Feel My Love, which we have heard was the Royal couple’s first dance.

It was the best day of our lives and we can’t wait to see all the photos!
