Yvonne Danaher has sewn, beaded and embroidered from a child. Over the years she has been involved in many weddings, from making bridesmaids’ dresses to ornamental pieces, normally as a favour.
Then her daughter, Laura, got engaged one week before Yvonne’s mother passed away. It was while going through her jewellery the pair came across a box of broken strings of pearls. That is how the idea for Yvonne’s signature cuffs began. She also used the pearls for the hair accessory and for the bridesmaids’ hair flowers.
After the wedding there was a lot of interest in where Laura got her bespoke pieces and Bespoke and Be Special was born.
Yvonne says: “I love to work with the brides and their ideas, using anything that they want incorporated into their special piece. This varies from pearls, lace from their dress, and recently I made a garter from the mother of the bride’s dress. I also made a motorbike from crystal for one of my brides who was blind and had a passion for biking. This was especially gratifying as she was able to feel the piece.
“The pieces featured here were from Freya’s wedding in Italy. She had chosen Italian lace for her dress and brought me some off cuts for me to make a hair piece. The lace was so pretty I played around with the bits I had left, and made the cuff to photograph for my website. I showed it to Freya, who took it to her dress fitting and decided that she had to have it. This bride was very petite and the dainty cuff really was made for her.”
