Being a princess at Tregenna Castle

South West Bride’s Fiona Jardine enjoyed a stay at the fairytale Tregenna Castle – a venue she found to be perfect for your fairytale day.

If you’re looking for that fairytale wedding the day when you can be a true princess then Cornwall’s Tregenna Castle is, without doubt, the most magical and romantic setting for any wedding or civil partnership.

From the tree-lined drive up to the castle you can immediately see why the 72-acre estate makes the perfect setting for your special day. The panoramic views of St Ives Bay are truly breathtaking.

During my stay, there were two weddings taking place, each unique in their own way. One was an indoor ceremony, catering for 60 guests and the other an outdoor ceremony in the beautiful outdoor pavilion in the picturesque gardens with more than 120 guests.

I sneaked a peek (after all we love weddings here at Bride) and both reception rooms were dressed exquisitely by the weddings events team, with fabulous flowers, strings of fairy lights behind the top table, birdcage flower arrangements, stunning balloons and a grand piano. What more could a true princess want from her dream day? A dedicated events team? Check. Exclusive use of a fairytale castle? Check. A menu fit for a king? Check. During our two night stay my partner and I feasted on the best Cornish produce, in the main restaurant – which was transformed for the larger wedding breakfast the following day – and in the Brasserie. We dined on homemade mackerel ravioli, fresh sole and my favourite dessert of all, crème brûlée, just some of Tregenna’s signature dishes, fit for any princess or bride-to-be.

Of course, after a long day any princess bride will need to rest their weary head and she can do just that at Tregenna Castle, choosing to stay in the castle itself, enjoying one of the massive en suite, double rooms with a sea view as we did, or take advantage of the wide range of self-catering lodges and apartments throughout the estate, designed to cater for all tastes, needs and budgets.

But this is not all Tregenna Castle has to offer. During our stay we spent a happy morning whiling away the hours and the stress in the indoor and outdoor swimming pools, steam room, sauna and Jacuzzi. We then took a leisurely walk through the stunning castle grounds to St Ives itself, where we spent the afternoon window shopping and paddling on the beach. What better way for a bride to unwind after her wedding day than a mini-moon enjoying the facilities  which also includes a par 3 golf course, an Ofsted-rated “outstanding” crèche and, importantly, Castle Beauty & Hair, offering extensive beauty treatments to the entire wedding party, before or after the big day.
