February Question:

We like the idea of booking a beautiful country house wedding venue -  but how can we decorate it?

Bijou’s Advice:

Planning how to decorate your country house wedding venue can be an exciting experience and you’ll not be short of inspiration if you’re connected with the likes of Pinterest, Instagram and Facebook. Your floral choices and wedding décor may depend on the season you choose to tie the knot – a dedicated wedding florist will be able to advise you on the most suitable flowers for your colour scheme and wedding month. Popular country house wedding themes include rustic, vintage or romantic, so below, we’re giving you some ideas on how you can decorate your chosen wedding venue, around those themes.

Rustic wedding theme

Think slices of wood topped with hessian-wrapped jam jars filled with hand-picked flowers. A naked wedding cake decorated with fresh fruit and quirky signs pointing people in the right direction could look great. Place LOVE letters on different rungs of a ladder to enhance the ambience or use an old wooden crate as your card/gift box.

Vintage wedding theme

A vintage wedding theme works wonderfully in a country house wedding venue. Hand-make bunting to hang across a mantle piece or use old suitcases to store cards or stoles to keep guests warm. Lace tablecloths could look lovely – so could a hand-made table plan, created from an over-sized frame. Have guests type their wedding well wishes to you on a vintage typewriter and consider a stack of old books for your centerpieces.

Romantic wedding theme

Nothing screams romance like fairy lights in an old barn style wedding venue. Speak to a specialist about how best to decorate your wedding venue with twinkly lights. Lanterns lining a petal scattered aisle could look sensational and when it comes to the first dance, how about over-sized light-up initials or why not spell out the word LOVE? A self-made photo booth or pretty sweetie cart could be the ideal way to keep your wedding guests entertained throughout the night.
