Because of our Italian roots and love of historical architecture, we wanted the whole romance of a Venetian wedding. After being let down by a wedding planner, I decided to take on the task alone – they just did the legal paperwork. The dress was chosen specifically for Venice.
As I walked up the aisle, our string quartet played our favourite piece of music Pachelbel’s Canon. I felt nervous and vulnerable, but as I reached Lino he extended a hand to me steadying my nerves. The bridesmaid s looked sophisticated and beautiful, glowing with pride in their stunning gun metal grey, full-length gowns. We had a pianist playing classical music throughout and the room was breathtaking with original murals on the walls and ceiling.
We had a small tasteful posy of white roses on each table matching the bridal bouquet and bridesmaids’ flowers. We didn’t have speeches but Lino’s son, Dario, asked if he could just say a few words. Shaking but grinning he gained a well deserved round of applause. The photographers were amazing and made it all seem fun, yet carefully organised their shots. They blended in with the guests perfectly.
The evening reception was on a magnificent Galleon and we had three river boat taxis to take us all there. The journey was surreal, past all beautiful landmarks for which Venice is famous. On the journey to The Galleon, many people clapped and took pictures from the bridges and walkways. This is traditional for Venice when they see a bride. The Galleon cruised to Burano Island so we could stop for pictures and then we had a further four hours cruising around Venice. We played our own music on their system and absorbed the romantic, beautiful sights, dancing and laughing.
Our day was an amazing 12 hours of perfection. We saw Venice from the most romantic position, could not fault the professionalism of everyone we employed and most of all, have memories that will glow in our hearts forever.
