An intimate, romantic wedding in London

03 Aug 2022

Poppy and Marcela's intimate celebrations included exchanging their rings and personal vows together in a quiet corner in Soho

How did you meet?

We met in a club. Poppy was DJing and it was love at first sight.

How was your wedding affected by Covid-19?

We had to postpone, as Marcela is Brazilian and Poppy is American. Our families wouldn’t have been able to come otherwise.

What was the theme for the day, and did you have a colour scheme?

We wanted a very relaxed wedding with a feel of an elopement, but with our families present. We got officially married in Chelsea Town Hall but exchanged our rings and personal vows without anyone present, apart from our amazing photographer, Marta. We found a quiet corner in Soho and whispered the vows to each other. The only ‘theme’ that we planned was ‘Caipirinhas and pizza for everyone’.

What venue did you choose and why did you choose it?

We love the elegance of Chelsea Old Town Hall and for the reception, we chose a modern, non-traditional venue in Soho: Pizzeria Mozza.

How did you feel as you walked down the aisle?

We walked each other down the aisle and it was an amazing moment of love and celebration. Everyone was cheering and smiling, and it was just beautiful.

How did you make the ceremony personal to you?

We decided to say our vows privately. We didn’t want anyone to hear them and we felt strongly that we wanted this moment to be very intimate. We only took Marta (our photographer) with us, and she was very discreet.

What was your most memorable moment?

Definitely saying the vows and the speeches.

What was the most important investment for you?

The most important investment for us was our photographer.

Did you have any evening entertainment?

We hired the SpinSisters, a wonderful DJ.

Do you have any advice for couples in the planning stages?

Do whatever feels right for you. Customise everything, and pick and choose the traditions you like. It’s your day.
