Tell us about the proposal
The story begins with a handsome British boy who sweeps an American girl off her feet and they become inseparable. Years later on a Saturday in the park, while it was raining and with an ice cream cone in one hand, he proposes. Pure Magic.
What venue did you choose and why?
We are beyond blessed to have the love and support from both our families and so many dear friends. Liam moved to Kansas in 2015 and we have made a life here but when we became engaged we knew the wedding would be in Liam’s homeland of Cumbria. Our hearts were set on the Lake District and after one visit to Low Wood Bay, I knew it was the perfect place for us. I immediately felt in good hands with their first class bridal team and I knew that I could return to the States without a worry– not to mention the views and gorgeous interiors.
What colour theme did you choose?
We chose an effortlessly fresh and yet traditional colour palette of mostly white with hints of slate, blue, and lots of greenery. The flowers were to be more sculptural and free flowing. Brackens of Bowness did an incredible job on our arrangements. They were breathtaking.
Did you have any pre-wedding celebrations?
The day before the wedding we spent laughing and enjoying cocktails with guests that had arrived early. We even took a quick dip in the heated pools. We were having so much fun I cancelled our rehearsal. We thrived in these moments surrounded by love and in the evening, shared a beautiful meal with our families and bridal party.
Tell us about your big day
The morning of the wedding was rainy but sunny. In the bridal suite, beauty routines halted so we could race up to the rooftop terrace to view the most wonderful rainbow spanning the sky. They say the day goes by quickly, and it really does. In what felt like an instant later, my mom pinned a piece of lace from her dress to mine for good luck and dad walked me down the aisle. The room smelled of roses and the nerves turned to excitement. I couldn’t wait to see Liam. There is no feeling that compares to marrying the love of your life. It was the most amazing moment that I will never forget.
Tell us about the reception
Huge kudos to Low Wood Bay for making all the little details of the day perfect from ceremony, to wedding breakfast, and reception. It was impeccable. The wedding breakfast was phenomenal and we received so many compliments from our guests. With help from the bridal team, we were able to place a mini bottle of Prosecco at each seat as a wedding favour. Sugar Ruffles created our three-tiered white hydrangea cake and custom golden bee cake pops. Christopher Murphy drew caricatures for guests as an additional memento and we all danced the night away to live music by The Heights. Beauty team included Lucy Pearson and Makeup by Polly. Our big moments were captured by Jon Bird Photography.
